I have. Got sent a birthday present (and it was genuinely a bday present, not the normal me trying to dodge customs) and got a charge which was more than the actual value of the gift.

Kicked up a stink and got refunded about 80% of the charge, but it did take about 6-8 weeks and much hassling

Pretty sure you need a written letter (emails aren't accepted) from the sender confirming reason for sending/proof of value etc.

It's not easy to get around if you were dodging in the first place.

surely the customs information should suffice? if they've marked it as i've asked then it will say "2000YEN used clothing"…

If its marked down and clearly stated - this is what they go on, unfortunately to get hold of your item you HAVE to pay the fee and argue the point later. Parcelforce pirates, Sometime they open it and look online!
I had a similar issue, Where they charged double the amount. I paid it and complained, providing emails with costings etc. finally received a cheque for the difference.
good luck

Recently charged £17 customs on a $45 (£28 ) order. Brutal.

Just ordered something from Norway and forgot they're not in the EU, am I going to get stung?

Had an order shipped from the us, marked as gift and with a value of $39. Been almost 3 week now and suddenly got a notification today that I'm being charged a fee!! How?

EDIT - seems like because the invoice was marked as sent by a company HMRC won't accept it as a gift and therefore customs charges apply Cry

My apologies as it's probably in the thread somewhere but:

Import charges from FedEx but I've returned the parcel, do I still have to pay them?

Cheers

probably who ever sent it has not filled out the paper work right so they have query, best to maybe try and get the paperwork etc off of who sent it before you speak to them so you have all info, I'm assuming its clothes you have in package

turning in to a bit of a ball ache, paperwork is all spot on, no price tags so not sure why they've busted this particular one but they're obviously not happy it's down as a gift etc - filled in a form that echoes the original details, now they want to speak to the recipient, not in my name and the named person doesn't know I've squirrelled away my funds on another self indulgent treat!! hope the fuckers will at least return to sender.

If I buy something from a Japanese store (valued around £500) how much would I have to pay for customs/tax - around £100?
