Any recommendations for winter commuter tyres? Currently on 700 x 23 Vittoria Rubinos, been great all summer but had a few sketchy moments in the wet this week.

Yeah I think they are made to look good rather than be good. Cheek out a few of the bigger bike shops as winter sales are on now. Also look on lfgss forum you will pick up a decent 2nd bike for the same kind of price

its ok. My mate won one the "Contender" their top of the range one and rode it for about 200 miles before selling it. The frame is decent, tig welded chromoly, the wheels are really heavy and its all unbranded cheap chinese parts.

You can get more than a bunch of unbranded parts for your money if you can wait and get stuff second hand/ in the sales.

would be tough to kick off a wolf in snowboard boots and bindings.
ski pole to the side would fix it though..

You could tie a rope to the bike and pull the snowboarder on the flat parts.

if i tow anything behind the bike it best be something i can grill up later. preferably a fat salmon or a hooved animal of some sort

Isnt it really tiring/inefficient to have a gear ratio like that? Offset by the large diameter tyres I guess how far do you cover usually?

that one has a real low gearing, like a circus bike. though yeah it isn't terribly effecient running a single speed trhough deep powder. as if your chosen gear is low enough to get you through that you'll just be spinning every else.
the plus with the puglesy and offset rim is that you can run a singlespeed or fixed gear hub up fron to have as a backup and then ride with a freewheel casette and derailer for most of the time.
i should note that that isn't my photo though. some fella in alaska took it of another fella who has won a fair few 100-135 mile snow races.

Cool like that Fläsket

Reminds me of an old Cinelli I used to have, same as this, lent it to a friend and never saw it again Sad
