Rode the final section of stage 2 of the Tour today. The road is brilliant. Going to be great when the route is lined with fans

I need advice, absolute 'road' bicycle novice, bought a show pony (Scott Speedster 60 2014) picked the bitch up last night from Evans Cycles Chiswick and deported it straight back this morning.

The guy who helped me was really incredible and didn't want me to take it in first place saying it was not a great standard and he was right, the gear changes felt like I was on a rickshaw.

The issue was mainly size of frame, I'm 5ft6 and got a 52 frame which was dangerously in proximity to my balls so looking for a 49-50 frame.

I'm looking at this: http://www.specializedconceptstore.co.uk/allez/27417/14allez

Any advice, my budget is £600 which I know will only get me a mule but it is mostly for casual day outs.

Posted on your other thread so ill be brief. Secondhand 3/400 quid tops. Better bike, save cash. Upgrade brakes to something decent. 105s are good for little money. Those tektros are shite and specializeds own are terrible too. 2400 groupset is clunky and going for something second hand will get you tiagra/105 gearing and is a thousand times better. You'll also get lighter wheels and most probably a carbon fork. If you like specialized the Allez Elite would be spot on and is a big step up.

That model is very tasty Mrtyn, just googled it and it comes up being quite expensive - you got any pointers where I could find a good second hand other then gumtree?

Any forums you can point me to Duffman?

Thanks lads!

Your local gumtree is probably your best bet for getting something near. Ebay can be ok too. It's not too expensive to courier a bike. 30/40 quid perhaps. I got an Allez Elite 2010 for 330 quid so there's bargains to be had. If it's in good condition don't be too worried about it being a 3/4 years old. Frames don't change that much and components all eventually need replaced anyway and at that level, aren't expensive to replace with decent quality components. Road bikes don't get the abuse that mtbs get so unless they've had a bad crash the frames are more often than not near perfect barring the odd chip from a stray stone.

I got a cannondale caad10 for £650 off ebay that had the groupset recently replaced, bargain of the century.

If you can find a caad10 for anywhere near that price with shimano 105 it will be the only road bike you ever need Ubercool

If you do an eBay search for 50cm road bikes there a few decent bikes coming up. The trek 1.1 in particular is a great frame. It's got Sora components but they'll serve you well and just upgrade to 105s as they need replaced. Oh and if you do buy secondhand without trying you can always change the ride position with the stem length/height to tweak it so your proper comfortable.
