^ It depends a lot on your headshape, im the same as you, but by luck I ordered a Lazer O2 helmet that was on sale from Wiggle a few years back, and it fits really closely to my head (no homo).

I's it socially acceptable to wear a road helmet on a none road bike? I have no idea about this shit.
When I was a kid we didn't have helmets at all, and if you did turn up in one your mates would spend the day trying to smash your head in.

ftr I'm getting a Cannondale badboy 29er I think

Yeh I think so, if you were cycling in the city you COULD go out and purchase one of those 'street' ones like the Bern helmets, but like no one really bats an eyelid anymore.

Having said that, I ride my fixed in town but wear a road helmet, but my fixed has quite a road bike profile - drop handlebars etc

I use my road gear when I ride trails, works fine and no weird looks. The road gear does however get fucked more easily if you take a spill somewhere and the road helmet doesnt have the same protection in the back of the head as mtb/enduro helmets do

Laughing out loud next level self consciousness.

Just pick the helmet with the best fit, airflow and weight that you can afford. Nothing else matters.

I quite like the look of these POC Octal helmets, by the sounds of it they cover more of the head than other road helmets too, expensive though.

Russ have you checked out Kask lids? They look the business and aren't ridiculously expensive

I like the Foray because it looks a lot like the Synthe. It isn't a coincidence that the best looking lids are also the most expensive.

Briefly but the ones I liked where as much as the poc, and on looks alone I preferred the poc, I'll have another look though, any model in particular to look for?

Good loads of other bits and bobs to get, any cycling shops got any decent cods not coats Laughing out loud floating about?

I've got a mask mojito and it's perfect for my fishbowl shaped head, I also had a catlike whisper before which had better ventilation but the fit wasn't as comfy. Both look good imo. I think you can get the whisper for around 80

I like the poc too especially in that orange but 225 is crazy. Thankfully I can get a hold of the giro synthe on trade price so I'll try that next.
