not to say all "orient express" frames are invincible. i am sure there are some shit ones. hong-fu are not in that category. same goes for light-bicycle rims

I work in cycling insurance. Previously worked a high-end cycling brand. I don't know all the Ali express frames but we wouldn't touch any of them. Not to say they are worse than a planet x but at least you have a leg to stand on should something go wrong.

Yeah, got Scott and Cannondale MTB's (also owned a Marin that was nicked), use the latter more frequently purely 'cos it's newer (Oops). Both hard tails as that's purely my preference however if price wasn't an issue I'd got full suspension.

Get out regularly (pre-lockdown) on local trails/Bridal ways; I've done a few Black Mountain camping trips and gone up Pen y Fan which was pretty cool (coming down was fucking frightening though); both me and my bird came off (she went over the handlebars which was a scary sight).

The Scott and Cannondale were under 700 quid (Cannondale was on sale); coupla upgrades but nothing too pricey. I'm not hardcore by any stretch but what I've got and what I use them for is magic - great fun and no traffic to contend with.

Nah, free always - only payable if you upgrade to 'Summit' which has additional stats (heart rate, etc). You may have received 'Summit' free for your first month of Strava membership.

Yeah got a felt nine1 carbon hardtail. Great fun but stored at my parents as no space for 2 bikes (let alone a 29er) at mine. Only used it a handful of times in the past few years Sad Might sell it

Great. Thanks. I'll have a look.

@Rambo:

Interesting , did you handle insurance claims on wrecked bikes also or just theft and the sort?

Yah. Got a cheap hardtail 29-er at my family's holiday home in the Tyrolean Alps.
I'm going to replace it with a 9-speed Sora Triban RC500. Got some fat tyres and bodged a 12-36t mountainbike cassette on there with a Alivio MTB rear derailleur. Reckon it'll be fine right? This is the roughest terrain I've ridden there.

Will it be much more uncomfortable?

We've been walking down to the park a fair bit with the lad on his bike so the wife mentioned maybe us all buying one, I was going to get a cheap one on the ride to work scheme, but we can only use Evans and they have no stock at all, so in true Fuk style after looking a couple of weeks, I've bought an Orange Crush for double my original budget Laughing out loud can't wait to get it though looks a lot of fun.

been a few years now, but used to ride freeride/dh a lot, sold my demo 4 years ago Sad

I live in this city where it’s huge and would like to buy a bike again but I’d probably end up getting really hurt

its not just the chinese that are susceptible though, zipps hubs are shit and crack all the time, ENVE have compatibly issues with open tubulars, cannondale caadx forks got recalled, specialised allez forks got recalled etc etc, suggesting that a hongfu, or far sports, or light bicycle will explode in flames just because its chinese is nonsense
