Still haven’t been out on my ‘summer bike’ this year yet, frost this morning again and -1
Where do you live darko?
I end up using my 'summer' bike most of the year now. Don't understand why anyone would use a winter (shittier) bike. No enjoyment in it.
Exception is when you're riding in a group and need to have mudguards

i used to be in your camp and used my "summer" bike year round for 2 years - with raceblade mudguards for winter. paid a >£500 service bill a few weeks back; headset, BB, front caliper, cables, wheel bearings, 2x wheel rebuild to replace corroded alloy nipples and replace with brass, cassette, chain and chainrings (ok the chainrings was probably my fault due to being slack with changing chain + DA chainrings are made of cheese)
I ordered a fairlight strael 2.0 with di2 in feb - hope it arrives in time for winter
can fit proper mudguards which mean less water/dirt hitting your bike (+feet) which means less corrosion/wear of bearings/drivetrain. also has external threaded bb and external headset = more durable. cabling is also all external so much easier to work with when stuff needs replacing (the di2 will probably go on a summer bike at some point and i'll switch to mechanical on it). reach and stack are the same as my summer bike so will be perfect for winter and much more enjoyable to ride in the damp

I'd love to get a Fairlight, or another Reynolds steel bike. So jealous. I was back and forth with them on email about the Strael. Just need to save up enough now…
I haven't had my bike serviced recently, dreading to think now after reading your experience. I just find riding my 'winter' bike (which is a shitty secondhand Bianchi Via Nirone) is such a horrible experience after spending time on my 'summer' bike. I think the answer is a decent steel bike for winter, which won't make the difference between the two bikes so dramatic.
I love my 'summer' bike, but no so precious about it getting a bit scratched, etc. I don't think I'll ever sell it or want to upgrade, and can see myself riding it for years.
Any recommendations on casual cycling trousers (not tights)?
Looking at the Rapha ones:

Can't see many other alternatives…

Norfolk mate. I just use a shitty runaround in the winter to get about.
Dropped more than I could really afford on a supersix evo last year and I’ll be damned if I am letting it get fucked up with grit and rain plus I am lazy when it comes to cleaning after every ride
That sounds like such a pain swede ouch
