Yes they can, i strip the old hem down and use this to put back on, i dont show this on the website in detail as most people do it the easy way of pinching the finish just before it and i dont want other places to copy my methods.
Or if the hem is too worn out and scuffed up i can shorten it and add the white worn edging by machine after ive shortened them. This gives a nice vintage look to them.
With regards to the roping affect, i might be wrong, but i always thought that finish happens with both chain stitch hems and normal stitched hems.
I thought it was down to the fact most tailors when shortening legs tend to let the bottoms twist slighty and over time this becomes more visible.
I know from previous tailors ive worked with they used to do a way thick hem line of around 3/4 of an inch compared with a 1/2 inch the manufactures carry out (and any decent alteration place)
Most also let the hem twist slighty when shortening them as you have to 'fight' with the denim to keep them straight.
Could be wrong on this one though. ???

Thx, i try and be as fast as poss with returning all denim sent to me.
Its just a bit of a prob have at the min, getting more denim to repair/alter every month and dont really want to hire anyone else to carry out the work, most people in my trade tend to be nearly my dads age and dont really get the 'denim thing' or if they are young they arent experienced enough to take on.
Ive just recently taken on my niece to help on Saturdays, shes only at high school but is really good on the machine for her age. After only few weeks shes on the industrial machines already. (dont worry though shes not doing any denim just yet)
Think rather just stick to me doing the work and i know its all spot on and just work the odd late night to get threw the work load. ( whats that i hear ?? its Mike playing the world smallest violin, lol )
Just watchine Ricky Gervais show on E4,

When i get denim sent to me i always ask them on the phone where they have come from, most is just people who have googled me, then say split 50/50 between you lot on FUK and referals from other people. I still get the odd job from the Men's Health issue back in August 2009 when the featured me in the 'New Thrift' article.
I dont really want to be 'punting' for new work, as i know from past exprience on car forums, Mods can get a bit funny when you start trying to get work from them. Or is FUK a bit more relaxed ???
Just thought i'd join to give people bit of a better way to ask questions they might have about the repairs and alterations i do and to be honest i might get some tips from you guys about what i am doing right or wrong. For example i know from reading the forum a while back to stop tapering jeans the quick way and also to invest in a chain stitching machine.
Well from tonights responce i am going to take a chance its going to be right and fly down tomorrow morning and buy it, before it goes.
Will prob get it delivered next week, Prob Thursday.
Would do this week, but at Carrington Thursday and maybe Friday sorting out the Champions League final suits for the United team (not name dropping one bit, lol )
When the chain stitch comes ill do all shorten legs with the chain stitch at 9.95 for 1 month for all FUK members, just quote when you bring them in or sending them.(all ask is you give me a quick email or post on here with what you think of the finish, anything that needs to changed, tension of cotton etc….)
Hi Rez,yeh no probs mate, if its an emergency ill get them done asap, done a taper edwin jeans for a lad from Liverpool today, think hes off the forum. Did them while him and the missus went shopping for an hour.
Hi Duffman, yeh i should be able to sort them out even when they are really blown i can still get them back to wearable condition. Looking at 19.95 for both sides and front part if needed. (return p+p is seperate)

The roping is the fade on the hem. I'll be honest, I have no idea if roping is created/ effected/ different depending upon a chain stitch or running stitch. The only reason I ever use a chain stitch service is when I want jeans shortening that already have a chain stitch, as I always wear a turn up on my denim, selvage or not, and I prefer the way a chain stitch looks.

Do many people specifically state there from FUK when they contact you? Even posting a few posts on here a week will increase your sales alot i would imagine.
So any idea when the chain stitch service will be up and running? I have some epic fadez, grail edwins of mine i wouldnt mind getting sorted out!

Given that everyone was raving about your service before, and the fact you're now a sponsor of the thread, and that you hardly seem touting for work, just answering people's questions and letting us know what's new and going on I don't think anyone would be mad about aspect of you posting here.
Welcome, I've been meaning to get some things off you you for a while too, I'll be in touch.

does the stitching grow into roping the more you wear them then?
seriously know nothing about hemming on jeans.
