My 1210s are gathering dust but from what I remember-
It could still be the phono lead, but the one that's going from the turntable to the mixer which is damaged, they're normally wired in (presuming I've read your question correctly)
OR
It could be that the cartridge is damaged/ not wired up properly. There are four little pins in the headshell which are wired to the cart according to colour coding (2 each for L and R iirc), so if they aren't wired correctly or the contacts are damaged you might have a problem.
Most likely to be the phono lead, but if not, check the cart, and of course could be in the tonearm etc but pretty unlikely.

no mate i meant the lead from the turntable to the mixer, if there technics they're attached to the turntable so cost abit to replace but i use vestax and there just ordinary phono leads

I'm no good/ not experienced at downloading any big programs and I want to get some new DJ software, something like Ableton. How do I go about getting a good download?

Hey guys,

Looking for a bit of help & have been reading through this thread.. I'm looking to getting into DJ'ing to some extent.. I've been looking for a while now & can't decide what to go for.. All my music is stored on my computer & i like the sound of software controllers, although not too sure about the midi controllers within my price range (upto £400/500), plus they all seem a bit gimmicky.

What would be the best route for a complete newbie? I would like decks to be able to scratch to some extent & be able to hook up to my laptop for music selection/mix recording.

I'm really undecided between the following…

http://www.htfr.com/more-info/MR322901 NDX 400 decks

http://www.htfr.com/more-info/MR293537 M1 USB Mixer

http://www.htfr.com/more-info/MR273210 Pro 3 mixer

http://www.htfr.com/more-info/MR335439 CDi deck package

http://www.htfr.com/more-info/MR230782 Citronic decks

http://www.htfr.com/more-info/MR319003 Kam decks

http://www.htfr.com/more-info/MR286442 VCi 100

http://www.htfr.com/more-info/MR276240 Numark Omni Control

http://www.htfr.com/more-info/MR335539 Numark Mixdeck (Pricy but like the idea)

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cass

I'd personally stay away from cheaper hardware stuff like Kam, Citronic and Gemini.. You get what you pay for and I've worked at loads of places who've gone through a unit every month and ended up paying the extra for Denon or Pioneer.

Keep your laptop and get the basics down with a controller and blag a go on other peoples decks when you get a chance.

My mate has a Numark Omni controller, a half decent laptop and a good set of active monitors, works a treat. Although the controller is tricky to set up with Traktor but you're only going to need to do it once anyway.

Personally I prefer a set of vinyl turntables, half decent mixer, and 300watts of bass Cool

Yeah i would like vinyl turntables, but getting hold of a decent vinyl collection would be far too expensive…

Anyone got any experience/comments on the VCI-300? http://www.htfr.com/more-info/MR266242

You could get some decent used turntables, a mixer, and a cheaper timecode thing like maudio torq

What style is it you are wanting to play?

Most drum and bass and house is cheap enough.

Hip-hop & old school garage mainly.
