Bought a shirt listed as ‘new without tags’ on eBay and when it’s arrived there’s a button missing. Looked back at the listing and you can just about tell it’s missing on the pictures but it’s not mentioned on the listing.

I’ve messaged the seller, but reckon I should whinge to eBay/PayPal? I’ve always just taken it as the risk of buying from the bay but sick of chancers and the like on there now.

Nah, if it's listed as 'new without tags' you should expect a button missing and jam on the collar at bare minimum, mucker - should count your lucky blessings that it ain't smothered in Golden Shred.

Dunno if anyone can confirm this, but does PayPal offer buyer protection for Gumtree purchases?
There appears to be conflicting messages online from the two companies - Gumtree saying only use “goods” payments, and PayPal saying they don’t offer buyer protection on Gumtree.

I think it depends on how you receive the goods. You will never receive buyer protection for meet-ups from PayPal because there are so many ways you can defraud paypal they would go out of business.

If you are just getting them posted to you then pay like normal - send it to their paypal account as a goods and services payment and you will be covered.

Gixen is free and works 99% of the time if it's just a few items. You do provide them your login details but seems legit if a little amateurish.

Sold a Sonos to someone with 1 feedback 12 months ago. It arrived today and he said its dented which I really doubt as not only was it new/never used but in original packaging and then bubble wrapped ontop of. I asked for a pic and he sent one of it on a stand wired in, it "feels" like its a bait and switch for his bust one.

Is there anything I can do to protect myself? It feels like hes gonna send his broken one back

Not sure it would do any good but if you could note the serial numbers / Mac address of the item you posted and if its different to what you get back use that as a basis? Still comes down to your word v his tho

Did you ever register it with sonos? maybe they log the serial number.

Did you have pics of the item showing no dents on the auction page?

Also, play on the fact that he wried it in, then asked for a return because it's dented, if I bought something and it's visibly broken. Why would I wire it in.

Did you insure postage? Can you claim damage in transit or ask that he take it up?

If you ever had your Sonos working, check your router's connected devices history - it'll show the MAC ID which gives you the serial number.

Even without it I'd call his bluff, say you have it so you can check the item returned is the one you sent. Would also ask for pics that show the dent on the Sonos match the dented packaging, and ask him to pay return postage.

If he's a chancer, doubt you'll hear from him again

Really appreciate the advice.

Router check is a good call. I’ll reach out to Sonos, but yeah no dents - I used it for a week if that.

Agree on why wire it in if it was broke, he also says it doesn’t work. Just doesn’t add up.

Insurance wise yeah I paid max insurance with Hermes. No idea if I can claim but I asked for a pic of the serial number which he sent but not of the box.

I know ebay usually side with the buyer so offered him 50% money back. No reply as of now

Ebay/PayPal consistently holding onto my money, purchased an item recently (not via eBay) using PayPal and decided against it before the seller dispatched the item. Seller refunded the payment immediately, PayPal are even holding on to these funds for 2 weeks!?!?. Is this the case for everyone now or just me? Selling through eBay I’m lucky to see the money inside a month

I always receive money instantly through PayPal when selling on eBay and through PayPal directly

Have you just started using eBay? They usually hold funds for up to 30 days I think when you first start selling, to allow time for the item to be delivered etc

At the min I've offered to take it back and refund him if he posts it OR a discount. He hasn't replied or opened a case yet.

I guess I just wait for now

Appreciate the comments/help
