who gives a fuck how you get there once you have the trophy. 4 years ago portugal played Austria, Hungary, Iceland, croatia, Poland and wales before they got to a good team in the final.

Penalty is a joke, even more considering there were two balls on the pitch right where they were playing

Anyone in denial about Englands win and who deserved the win just needs to look at the stats…

https://en.as.com/en/2021/07/07/football/1625676783_159476.html

Dominated and played so much better than the Danish.

'2.9 – According to the xGOT model, Kasper Schmeichel prevented 2.9 goals tonight against England, the highest value by a goalkeeper in a single EUROs match since at least 1980'

As far as I'm concerned the two best teams are in the final, going to be a great day.

The commentary was something else last night - so bad it makes me wish Clive Tyldesley was back (he's fine away from the England games imo).

As mentioned above, the two best teams are in the final. Looking forward to it. I wouldn't mind England winning but it would mean I can't watch "British" TV again for about 30 years.

^Nice clip Dee.

also for no pen calls, look at the clash of knees and the hips. Soft but i'm sure for your countries you;d be screaming.

there is a touch, a very soft one clearly, rather than a clash. Classic penalty that makes you fuming if it's against your team, should never be given imo.

This not to say England didn't deserve or whatever, but that definitely helped as pressure on players in case of penalties was huge, as shown by Kane

Don't understand why there's so much controversy over the penalty. Yes, it looked like a light touch, but it was VAR'd and still given. What more do people want to happen?

If we win the thing it will be amazing. Portugal won it having won a single game in 90 mins, and played shit throughout. By comparison, we're world class.

Think the Italian game will be so tough, but fingers x. The home advantage will be massive.

Anyway fuck the whingers, supporting a team is so much sweeter watching others blub about your success!

Team for the final anyone? Was surprised at no sancho last night. I want to like mount but he hasn’t done much. Kane needs to not drop deep, he was barely in the box last night.

Exciting.

England done great so far, only conceding once (for 9 minutes only) in the entire tournament, fully deserved to get to the final, with a little bit of luck sprinkled in, but how often have England have any luck in major tournaments over the years? Hardly ever…

VAR checked it, it was given, it might have been soft but then Kane's was more of penalty than Sterling's, also the free kick for Denmark for their goal was quite soft also so swings and roundabouts

This final is 100% got the best 2 teams of the tournament in it and its fully deserved, you got to give Denmark credit for navigating through the tournament after such a terrible incident with Eriksen, but England edged it last night and Denmark just looked knackered in the end

Come on England in the final!

Let’s go England. We’ve been playing well, deserved to win that. Not conceding in open play is very impressive.

Denmark’s free kick was also soft, Pickford should have got there IMO. We got away with some of his dodgy kicks as well.

Let me write this (which I heard from a friend) before some “smart” football pundit does:
"The stats are in England’s favour. England has a 100% success record in winning in the finals matches of the Euro or World Cup whereas Italy’s success record is 62%
A good way of teaching how statistics work to football fans!"

don't know much about football at all so sorry for the stupid question - has the laser pointer in the goalkeeper's face something that's happened before at this level?

I'm pretty sure in those borderline situations VAR cannot intervene to directly change a decision because it's not a clear and obvious error.
They checked it, obviously there's a touch so it's not 100% an error, just 99%, but they could hardly do anything. It's not that VAR confirmed it
The point is that a penalty like that should not be given at all in the first place because the other way around, a ref not giving it, there's no way VAR would or could change that decision.
As these are those classic situations where you're happy when it's for you, fuming when it's against, they should be avoided. Penalties should be given when there a clear foul, stop.
