Relfio, Amsterdam is cool if you wanna get a brass, smoke weed, take sniff and see Anne franks cubby hole.

Rome's cool if you wanna buy gucci, see old things and fuck your partner every night.

amsterdamn is a better city with more interesting modern things to do but it will cold and wet as the climate in very similar to the uk. But Amsterdamn attracts the dross of society at the weekends so avoid it like the plague.

Rome is a great city and for a weekend its perfect as there is lots to do and see. accomodation and food is very expensive, but at least you'll have the sun and the beach isn't far.

i vote rome

Prague

Prague was fantastic, the city was so beautiful and full of history. We stayed in a really nice hostel which was £14 per nights, it was a 2 min walk from the main square so we couldn’t of been in a better position, especially for the price.

The beer was incredibly cheap, I got fucked on £5.00! A pint was about 40p which was fantastic. We met these really nice Americans in a bar and went to a club which was good, the local girls were incredible, not a unit in sight. Girls would be all over you just because you were English, a couple of the American guys we were with went home with some stunners, which I was very jealous of. I will 100% come back and do weekend.

The next day we walked across the bridge from XXX and looked at a castle, I was really badly hungover so I didn’t do much sightseeing and the girlfriend went off on her own which was a blessing as she was annoying me. We went out of a great dinner along the river which for both of us including wine cost about £12

Barcelona 24/07 - 27/07
Nice 27/07 - 30/07
Venice 31/07 - 2/08
Rome 2/08 - 5/08
Rome to Brindisi 5/08
Brindisi to Athens ferry 5/08 - 6/08
Athens 6/08 - 10/08
Sofia 11/08 - 14/08
Budapest 14/08 - 17/08
Prague 17/08 - 20/08
Berlin 20/08 - 24/08
Amsterdam 24/08 - 27/08
Paris 27/08 - 29/08

Any hostels youd recommend in those locations?

Pics look great by the way, what mode do you use to take most shots with or do you just leave it on the auto? I had a go at fiddling about with all the functions but im pretty retarded with that kind of thing.

Venice - book as early as you can. when we tried to book a month in advance every single hotel in Venice was fully booked and we ended up staying between Padova and Vicenza. it was just before the start of the Biennale though

Paris - Montmatre is the cheapest area of central Paris to stay in, the area around Pigalle Metro stop is ok, a bit seedy in places, it's the red light district. I've stayed in hotels there a couple of times (no Charlie Sheen) which were ok, wouldn't go back Laughing out loud

I've booked hostels through http://www.hostelworld.com before, they seem to have a good selection / quality

brilliant andy thanks. Trying to book a few hostels up now, originally we planned to just turn up in a city, blatantly a terrible idea!

Paris is probably the only place we are clued up on, one of the people im travelling with has just finished a year in france for his degree so he's pretty much fluent.

Brodie are you traveling by train?

In big cities there are always people offering hostel services in the train stations. Not sure if they'r dodgy, but we got a good deal when we were in Rome.

Had a dodgy big fat guy, with slick back tied hair, offering us a place to stay. There were three of us so we thought fuck it and went with him, turned out to be a really good deal.

We traveled around Eastern Europe and Italy and didn't book up any hostel in advanced, just went to the local information centre and got details and then just called couple of numbers for the best deals. Yep Venice you've got to book in advance as we slept out for the night. Laughing out loud

for Venice, I really doubt you'll find anything in the city itself this late, but then I was looking for hotels rather than hostels (no topper) so it's probably still worth looking. if not then other places to consider are:

Mestre - the main town just across the water from Venice (10 minutes by train)

Lido di Jesolo - tourist resort by the beach just along the coast from Venice. you take a bus for 20km to Punta Sabbioni then a ferry / waterbus into Venice (half an hour I think)

Padova - major city with lots of accommodation 35 minutes away by train

Vicenza - 55 minutes away by train

also found these which might be of use

http://www.hostels.com/en/it.ve.html

http://www.hostelscentral.com

just some general notes on rail travel in Italy - it's very very cheap. the ticket machines in the stations are very easy to use, they have an English option. we had to get a Eurostar first class from Florence to Vicenza (3 hours) as there were no other seats left, bought the tickets 5 minutes before the train left, and it cost 72 Euros all in - can you imagine what it would cost you here buying 2 First class tickets for a 3 hour journey 5 minutes before travelling? Laughing out loud those were our most expensive tickets

be aware that there are 2 types of train in Italy - Eurostar / Inter City trains which are fast and have restaurant cars / drinks & snacks trolleys, and Regionale trains which have no food or drink on them at all. it will tell you at the ticket machine which kind of train it is, so if it's a long journey make sure you stock up before getting on

and you need to get your ticket stamped at one of the ticket validating machines at the start of each platform, otherwise the ticket inspector will tut at you Laughing out loud

Don't get on the nice one if you've only paid for the budget one. I was frog-marched from the train to the nearest exit at the first stop Laughing out loud
