Did you stick around PP long? Stay at lakeside?

I stayed at Lakeside, 2 different places. Both just round the corner from this curry place where you could eat as much as you wanted for like 2 bucks.

Guffer, great pics, love that boat one, just needs either lightening to show more detail or darkening to make it just silhouette.

Dave, D70 is a lovely camera (still have mine), £300 is not dirt cheap but not too much, depends on condition. Only problem is viewing screen is small, and viewfinder is quite dark comared to more recent stuff, but you can use the D70 as a commander flash if you buy an SB400/600/800 which is a cool feature. Also flash syncs faster than pretty much any other camera at 1/500sec (even pro Nikons), I don't entirely know why this is good but I know it is Smiling

Best, I would highly recommend a Sigma 18-50mm 2.8f Macro, or even the 28-70 2.8f, the 18-70 is decent but not really any better than 18-55, don't think the 18-135 is that great. The 2.8 aperture will let you do stuff with available light which is always good, and the macro feature on the 18-50 is very cool. I got my Sigma 18-50 in new condition of eBay for £113, although that was very cheap. If you haven't got any other lenses get the Sigma and a Nikon 50mm 1.8f prime (might get both for £200 if you bide your time on eBay.

I was camped at happy guest house for a while. The curry place was brilliant. All you can eat for $2. You know they opened up an all you can eat for 1$ now too Laughing out loud

Jesus, I remember being excessive my first go at that curry place, and not being able to walk back the 50 or so metres back to my room I was so bloated.

I first stayed at the guesthouse that had the boat moored right at the back. We were drinking their one night when it started to sink. We kept trying to help them pump out the water, but in typical asian politeness they refused, and we just lay their drinking and smoking while the poor sods worked on it for hours.

Was the Drunken Frog the one on the roof? I remember the owner was asking everyone to sign their name on the side of the bar. Felt like such a community down there, everyone knowing each other. Lot of ex pats and teachers obviously and there was this regular party at this old plantation type house in the city where they all get together. Bit clique, but it had a swimming pool and everyone was roaring by the time they kicked us out. Hairy ride back in a convoy of scooters and the Cambodian style tuk tuks. Fuck, I kind of wish I'd sacked off Oz to spend all my time in SE Asia, it just didn't feel like travelling on the East Coast. Even though there's the great Whitsunday and Fraser Island trips, it ends up being a big pissup with the same people you meet on a night out back home, the only difference is the women are hotter. Like anywhere, you really need to spend a long time in each place and get to know the locals. I was in Pai in the North of Thailand for 3 weeks just before I left for Oz. Got bloody cold near the end of it, with it being up in the mountains, but the Thais up there are really cool. It's the only place I've been to where Western girls were going out with the locals, and the few European guys with Thai girls actually looked like couples rather than seedy transactions. Usual hippy bullshit of course; plenty of trustafarians who stepped off the plane, hit the thai dye and dreadlocks, but the good outweighed the bad.

So many Israelis in Thailand as well. Some of them are absolute cunts while the rest are the best people I've ever met out travelling.

This was Martin the barman in the frog, you probably recognise him. He's there every night. It is proper homely there and a bit cliquey. BU i loved it.
Was this the gaff with the boat? If it was you was at floating island. Spent a few nights there myself.
The party with the pool is called 'elswhere'. First thursday of every month i think. Loads of ex pats go to it.

Elsewhere!!! That's it. I was travelling with a couple of weeders at the time, and the cunts bailed on me at the last minute to smoke up back at our room. And that was the boat I think, stuck out right into the lake. Pokey ass rooms there, especially if you were in a 3 bedder.

Complete change from Battambang (sp) where we had pretty much a plush hotel room for like half the price, but that's PP for you. Bloody loved Cambodia, wish I'd made it to see the freshwater dolphins in..Kratie, I think. Only bad memory was, I stupidly left a load of dollar in my rucksack coming back into Thailand, and by the time I got to my place in mini Khao San some prick in the luggage hold had ransacked it. No matter the lock you have on your case, those bastards can get in. Kind of puts paid to the idea of storing funds of money in different parts of your bag.

When were you there btw MoB?

Brief hands on review

Though after reading numerous reviews about the D300, I'm tempted to make the switch from Canon to Nikon. I don't have too many ties with Canon apart from my lens, but I'm pretty sure I can make back what I spent on it. Only thing putting me off is the lack of full frame, which will be resolved.

Or… sit it out and see what the 5D mk2 will be like or the 7D…

D3 then? Smiling
My mate who uses Canon and likes to read all the stuff thinks the 7D is likely to be announced fairly soon. 5D does look very nice but it doesn't have the frame rate of the Nikon, don't know if you'd use that or not (my D200 does 5fps, nice to have).

MoB, I got a ticket from PP through my guesthouse (one just down from where the Drunken Frog was). Full of locals, and was a pretty shitty journey all the way to the border, especially when it went back on that damn road you go on when you come into Cambodia on the way to Siem Reap. I'd been out till 4 or 5 the night before at the DF so when I got to the border I was shattered and after all the customs and working out where the hell I had to go I made the silly mistake of flashing my envelope of spare dollars and didn't put it in my hand luggage. The bus to Bangkok was the usual fine VIP with plenty of room to stretch out, but the damage had been done and one of the fuckers ransacked my bag. Only time I got stuff stolen and was a pretty miserable return to Thailand. Shortly after I headed to Kanchanaburi with a good Kiwi friend I'd travelled with in Cambodia, and one of his friends from home so it was all good. Kanchan was great. Forgotten the name of the guesthouse there, but it had a big lawn where you could kick back on, cheap food, and a nice view of the river. They had a big biker festival when we were there, but i got too drunk during the day and missed them all departing via Choppers and trucks. Ended up playing Jenga with two Scandis and went with them and the Thai barowners to one of the clubs. Ended up back at their bar afterhours and got propositioned by one of the Thai birds who must have been 40 lol. Proper fucked it up for me with the Scandis as they left shortly after even though I refused point blank. All I can remember after that was stumbling back home with one of her kids laughing his ass off, and shouting, 'You wanna fucky fucky my mother' while dry humping one of the parked cars.

Ahhh great times.

would there be any major problems with buying a camera in the states?
