Is this taboo?

Fully haram bro

No pub. Enforced curfew. Courts suspended. Gonna have to all get a lota soon if we run out of toilet paper.

Funny after all the fretting from the right over Islam that it's this virus that'll have us living under 'Sharia law' Laughing out loud

Still not many facemasks being posted.

China - facemasks all over the show. No more virus. Clean as a whistle now.

Everywhere else - no facemasks…..and it’s doomsday.

Gov should have had them ordered and in place ages ago, quite a lot of health workers are without the correct protection.

Considering the amount of money the NHS wastes its a worry they didn't have them stockpiled as part of a contingency strategy.

That's a cultural thing though surely? People in Asia have worn masks when ill for a long time so it not perceived as abnormal behaviour and you would not be judged/ostracised in the way I think you would be here.

We all used to work, go to bars and get on planes too. Not anymore.

If it’s a new world and facemasks help prevent the spread…..maybe it should be a requirement too. Soon everyone is going to be in supermarkets (last place left) coughing all over everything.

I do agree. Normalisation is key and it can come through enforcement. Look at liquids on planes for example. Right pain in the arse at the time but no one bats and eye about it now.

Or the 'smoking ban'. Even if the masks aren't completely effective there is something about them that shows solidarity / responsibility and raises awareness.

See Rirawin's explanation for masks in the east on the first page.
With the shortage of masks, the only folks who should be wearing them out in public are the ones who feel ill (better yet, they should stay fucking home).
the majority of people wearing masks in the west have surgical masks which are great for preventing the wearer's droplets from spreading to other folks, but don't protect the wearer from virus particles. and the ones that actually have n95 masks likely didn't go through the fit testing process to ensure there's a tight seal, thus rendering them as ineffective as a surgical mask at protecting against airborne virus particles.
