Just got back now, what a mess that was. We arrived at 7, queued for about a hour. Got in had a little wander around. Went to watch Jaar, needed a piss half way through and couldn't get back in. Walked round to the cocktail bar which was fairly quiet. Walked back round and the place was heaving, had to just go with the crowd surge to get in the main tent to watch Amon Tobin. By this time I was off my nut and thought it was amazing. Left and came back to watch Doom, had to go with the surge again. Doom I thought as shit, to be fair not really my thing. That was pretty much it, didn't get anywhere near the boat or the dome.

My brother went and said it was the best time he's ever had at a festival. Will definitely be trying to go next year, was pretty underwhelmed with Sonar this time around.

Red Bull BBQ on the Wednesday was amazing, free booze & food from 5pm-2am, Just Blaze did a surprise DJ set and then my brother & Space Dimension Controller played afterwards. Had the Germany Holland game on a big TV in the evening too, a lot of the RBMA crew are from Germany so there was a great atmosphere for that.

At Sonar on the Thursday I only really saw a bit of the Daedelus Archimedes show downstairs which was a quality set, but that Sonar Hall stage is really bad for overcrowding, I've only ever seen stuff from the very back in there. Went to see Thundercat and Flying Lotus outside afterwards, who were so so. Numbers party that evening was immense, Levon Vincent was the only disappointment, everyone else smashed it and Jack & Joy O played for a couple of hours to a packed crowd, dropping house & garage anthems all over the place. I think there were about 1200 in there:

On Friday I only really went to see Nightwave, Flying Lotus and Jacques Greene during the day. Nightwave was great, played a lot of old ghetto house and detroit techno, but Flying Lotus was again disappointing and JG's live show didn't really work outside. Caught a bit of Amon Tobin (awesome stage show but missed most of it), some of Lana Del Rey (atrocious), James Blake (meh, not suited to the venue), James Murphy and Untold (both great) and wandered in to Brodinski who's not really my cup of tea, but he played Outlander - Vamp as we walked in so we had a bit of a riot there. Went up the road and got a kip after while a lot of my mates went to the beach from 8am-7pm and got ridiculously burnt Laughing out loud

Saturday I just sacked Sonar by Day, went to the night venue pretty late but caught a bit of Azari & III Blawan who was much better than he usually is, and Modeselektor, who I've seen a load of times but were so much better at Sonar than their last few shows. Went home about 7am and took a valium to get a much needed good snooze Smiling

Spent the rest of the holiday watching the football, enjoying the beach and eating well. Good holiday all in all but the lineup was too sparse for my liking this time around, and the amount of heel dragging I had to put up with from my bird and pals really pissed me off at the time. The last big festival holiday with friends for a while I reckon.

Apologies for the essay, did you have a good one?

Got there Thursday midday, went straight to the day event to catch the Brainfeeder stage. Slightly disappointed they put it on in the village as i felt the sound was lacking. Flying lotus was ok but nothing mind blowing, feel like that sound works better in the redbull tent. Vibes were still good stayed and caught abit of Om Unit before heading off to ready for numbers. Numbers was one of my highlights of the hole week your bro and Joy O tore it down and that apollo was a decent sized venue!

Friday i only wanted to watch Flying L and Jacques Greene in the day. Ruined from Numbers so i didn't get out of our apartment till gone 5. Caught Jacques greene who again suffered from pretty poor sound in the village but none the less it was all chilled. Friday night i caught richie hawtin and squarepusher thought both were great. Although in all honesty i cannot remember much of squarepusher just a blur of lights now. Laughing out loud

Some how i was up till about 12 on it so saturday day turned into a complete right off.
At night i saw The 2 bears who surprisingly were pretty sick. Playing some 100 bpm house vibe. Roots were highlight of the hole festival seem to have endless amount of energy and played longer than i imagined. After that saw maya jane coles who was pretty standard. Finally caught all of Hyperdub Kode 9 was playing bangers whereas cooly G nearly cleared the hole room Laughing out loud I stayed for Julio Bashmore but to be honest i couldnt tell you alot of what was going on. I know he dropped Elipsis Sticking out tongue

Rest of my week was spend eating and on the beach. Also forgot i went to Luckyme which was pretty shit, rustie was ok but i dont think anyone i was with was in the mood. I was sure this was my last year but i love barcelona to much to not go again. Think its the 20th sonar next year so hopefully they pull there finger out and put on a more full lineup.

Yeah, not really been to festivals before so can't compare, but everyone I've spoken to have said the same thing. Typically really wanted to catch a few people in particular, Soul Clap, Kerri Chandler etc and managed to but naturally I just remember one big happy blur… It had such a perfect atmosphere though, even down to the security, I was expecting proper meat head cunts who hate the English but everyone was cool and relaxed. Chose to camp too, right on our own little private strip of beach, was nice but shit was like a refugee camp at times with the heat and tents. Can't fault much though, best holiday/trip I've ever been on by far.

Smoking a lilly hash in the sea bought from the camp's resident dj's…

Gonna try get to Dimensions last minute too I think, Line-up looks so good.

Not really sure where it's from tbf, don't hear it much thinking about it, other than among those I know and stuff. I say it with anything btw, not just in reference to a zoot or nothin.

Oh aye, I missed The Roots/New Order because of the aforementioned heel dragging of mates/bird, and also caught some of Julio Bashmore who was great, but I couldn't fully enjoy it as I managed to rip my APCs right down the side, leading to a sort of Angelina Jolie leg vibe Laughing out loud
