Now the crowd on the other hand: I suppose with Amsterdam being so close it could only escape the clutches of the bucket hat party shirt shuffle squad for so long…a total shit show last year.

Yes, 2016 was my last year going. Went in 2014 and it was amazing; festival was in its second year, tons of down to earth friendly Dutch people and other Europeans.

Each year I have been back it has become more & more of the same; the homogeneous Palace Crew and vintage Adidas & bucket hat crowd who are more worried about their insta stories and being seen at the dance than enjoying themselves and letting go. Less and less of a free spirited and mixed crowd. Kinda inevitable I guess, as you say the programming is just absolutely spot on, giving artists/DJs space to breathe with their performance rather than cramming hundreds of DJs in small slots like Dimensions does..

..so I'm off to Selectors this year. Figured a 2k capacity should retain some of that specialty, and the curation looks just as on point as Amsterdam. Hoping that it is less unspoiled - I guess we will see. Has anyone here been/is going?

Also gonna be going to this..! http://strangesoundsfrombeyond.com/festival/

A few mates went in 2016 and loved it. I find the whole 'selectors' thing of deifying a certain type of DJ kind of strange but aside from that highly subjective quibble it looks like a great festival.

Reckon I'll only get to one festival this summer due to work commitments so it'll have to be Sónar for me. People criticising the lineup every year miss the point, it's one of the most forward thinking festivals out there with a specific merging of quality electronic music and digital technology. I think trips to Sónar must be responsible for about half of my top musical experiences in life Laughing out loud

And aye Dekmantel 2014 was class. Only thing about Dekmantel and similar lineups is that they're more or less a greatest hits of artists you can see in Glasgow, London or Manchester throughout the year. There's not much to rival the sort of experiences you can have at Sónar, Unsound, Atonal etc.

+1 - spot on sum up of the situation.

Selectors is supposedly great, know a couple of people who've been and they rate it. Also going to Strange Sounds From Beyond as well as Lente Kabinet - figure those should compensate for Dekmantel being off the cards.

What did you think of SSFB?! Had a class time, Letta Mbulu really made the festival for me. Orpheu closing up on Saturday night was also perfect. Had the opportunity to finally go to De School as well, which is a stunning club - was long overdue as I used to go to Trouw regularly and loved that place.

Was in a group of 50 and only 6 got tickets, don’t know anyone else who got tickets either.

We’re people using bots or what?

Never heard of bots being used.

Not sure if there would be much commercial value in developing one as Glastonbury tickets can't be resold.

Something defo happened this year. So many people I know missed out. Must have been the popularity due to being off for a year

Gone proper mainstream now innit. Middle aged, middle class fuckers watching it on telly thinking they could get down to some Coldplay or Sheeran without realising that they've gotta shit in cubicle with no Andrex or Glade plug-in and mix with the people they swerve to avoid in the High Street.

In 2017 my mate's dad bought some package for his wife's 60th that included the ticket, helicopter travel to Glastonbury, accommodation in a yurt that looked like it had been decorated by Saddam Hussein, a private chef, Land Rover taxi directly to the various stages and a limo back to London. Laughing out loud

Let me know if you're interested, Jo.
