Black Axe Mangel easily my favourite restaurant at the minute. Opened by ex St John Bread and Wine chef, fusion of Turkish, Chinese and British influence. Would recommend.

Would tend to agree with that. If I was going to spend that bit extra from a standard ockabesi, then Berber and Que is much better.

What did you guys eat?

I don't know if it's really comparable to other Turkish grills like you say (maybe some of the flatbreads) but if you wanted to draw that comparison then I agree with you.

I didn't rate Berber & Q that much outside of that cauliflower dish however.

The dishes like the mission spice lettuce cups, mission spice quail, fermented shrimp butter cabbage and other more fusiony dishes are where the magic is.

I get you that some of the more expensive dishes are a bit overpriced though but I think it's a pretty unique restaurant forgetting all the hype.

Been to Chez Bruce - hired the private dining room. Was just meh & a bit tricky to get to if you're not driving..
Wouldn't say it was worth it..

Anything in particular?

Hot Numbers, Aromi, Pint Shop, Nanna Mexico, Butch Annies, Smokeworks, Bread & Meat all fairly decent casual places.

Does anyone know of a good, cheap joint to eat at close to the barbican? Usually go to Iskele on Whitecross but wondering if there's anything else that's sprung up lately..
