Don't go to Gaucho, go to the St John for some proper meat.

Went Barcelona in the week just gone and eat at a place called Solero (Salt Cellar) its near Barceloneta station and the port. The place was really chilled out and a nice atmosphere.
Was really nice inside all white and lit by candle light. I had tempura vegetables to start and a really nice fillet of beef with spiced veg. The gf had the fish of the day in garlic etc, with deserts and wine the meal was 70 euro.
Would highly recommend it - 8/10

Anyone in Brighton could do a lot worse than going to Casa Don Carlos in the Lanes. Ate there for lunch on Saturday, was brilliant. Superb tapas and charismatic staff. Hard to recommend a dish as all of them were great. Was about £20 per head including beers. Also the Hove Tandoori was really good, just decent food at a good price.
I'm meant to be going to 'Smith and Western' tonight, I've got a sneaking suspicion I'm in for a tacky gash night in a knock off TGI-Fridays.
I was right, tacky shit, expensive tacky shit.
Not only did they have some cunt coming out with a triangle every 5 minutes to play happy birthday to some brat, but they actually sang to me because I finished a 20oz T-Bone.
Anyone dahn sarf, never ever go to one of these, go to TGI-Friday if you have a yearning for tacky american grub.

I went here on Sunday in Brighton Marina - we both had the mussels (marinere) to start, she had fillet of bass in a foil parcel with rosemary and I had skate wing with capers. her bass was fucking top drawer and my skate was excellent. They know what they're doing.
with a bottle of water was a respectable £57.
bonus waking towards the pier was a classic MG show - must have been 100 cars.

it's not remotely romantic imo (too clinical and not enough ambiance for a one on one) but the fish was very good. we were there for lunch too, outside, so don't know what it's like in the evenings indoors.
if you're hunting down a place to eat, don't overlook Hove in your search. it's only a few mins away from Brighton in a cab and has an equally good selection of places to eat and drink.

Tayyabs is always great.
Best, don't know whereabouts in London you're looking for dim sum but the Royal China at Canary Wharf is much quieter than the others at weekends. Nice spot by the river too. Shanghai in Dalston is good too, but make sure you get a table in the front bit (which used to be a Pie and Mash shop).
