Took my folks last night. The restaurant now tries to pack so many people in that they push all the tables together (so abandon any hope of a visit to the loos).
They only managed to get 3 of our 6 starters right. A 4th arrived after our last main was brought to the table, and it was wrong anyway.
On delivering all the mains we discovered that they'd run out of rice!! Yes, you heard right…no rice in a Vietnamese restaurant. Miraculously, however, 15 minutes later - once most of the food was finished - they brought us 3 times the rice we ordered "to compensate".
They also brought us 2 desserts as an apology for the ongoing service issues - a kind offer. However, on paying the bill we calmly explained why we didn't feel that we shoudl pay a service charge. At this point the manageress became hysterical, started screaming at us and called over all the waiters. She then informed that that she'd just told them never to allow any of us back there again!!
Whilst I'm not sure whether she'll be upholding my ban or whether I just need a period of paroled absence, there is a part of me that wonders whether Huong Viet's greedy desire to take on too many covers will be the nail in the coffin for this iconic restaurant.
I hope not. 13 years I've been coming here. Great great food and good prices. Service, however, has gone from flakey to unbearable pitful.

The menu is a bit ordinary, looking at the building I'd have expected something realy grand and/or exciting.

Poor beer selection, OK wine.
Modern (wanky) decor but decent enough.
God awfull location

Udny Green, Aberdeenshire - Eat On The Green http://www.eatonthegreen.co.uk/
Lovely food, best I've had in a long time in fact, Sample menu is brilliant.
Stuck to wine and even at the lower price range it was impressive.
Old school decor, nice little town tho.
Worth the trek out of Aberdeen for sure.

London - The Ivy
Suprised at the size of the menu. Kedgeree starter was nice, Lemon Sole main was really good.
Wine was good what I could taste of it, (8 pints elsewhere before hand) Mojito in their bar which was good.
Simple classic decor.
Location was pretty handy to say the least.
Next up is Automat Aberdeen - Restaurant 21 - Market St (yes really)
just been, do a great cheese cake

going here saturday night, its the hotel where the england team and cup final teams etc stay…ill do a report monday.
How did you find it? I've been twice now once was brilliant the other time it was awful. Watch out for 'dirty weekend' offers I took the bird a couple of months ago for a weekend think it was £150 for a meal and a room which is decent for that calibur of place

went to the 'alford arms' today, and it was very good…the bubble and squeak bacon and poached egg starter was prolly the best starter ive ever had in a gastro pub, and then i went for the beef bourginuon and that was well lively as well…could of done with a bit more jus tho, but i still mullered the lot.
think it would be hard to beat this gaff, id say its even better than hestons pub the hinds head.

just been, do a great cheese cake

couple of places ive been this week.
oxo tower - brasserie (http://www.harveynichols.com/output/Page128.asp)
great in the summer due to the terrace/balcony. staff are always friendly and leave you in peace while you eat.
i had sardines to start, which was amazing, never really given sardines a go, but these were brilliant, lightly grilled with a salad.
for main i had chicken skewers with a chickpea dahl. was alright, nothing to write home about. and desert i had a milk chocolate tart, i normally go for dark chocolate deserts, so this didnt really hit the spot, but it was nice,.
overall - much of the same, what ive come to expect, its kept the same high standard for about 5 years.
price wise its reasonable, £15-20 a main.
asia de cuba - (http://www.stmartinslane.com/default.aspx#/explore/?id=asiadecuba)
easily one of my favourite restaurants, i love it. every time ive been the food is exquisite. the mojito's are easily the best ive ever had and the decor changes 3/4 times a year.
however this time i left disappointing. the signature salad, which is a crazy mix of calamari, banana, leaf salad was not up to scratch. the pastry dishes were greasy and the black cod was a smaller than usual serving.
the service was also a bit bulshy and rude.
mojito was great however.
overall - i hope it was a one off bad experience, but considering the price i wont rely on it as much as i used to anymore. mains £25+ mojito £16
mudhawan - (http://www.toptable.com/en-gb/venue/?id=9958)
went back home to my parents on saturday and was looking for a restaurant on toptable and found this place with a food rating of 8.9/10. thats an incredibly high score and it was based on over 50reviews so it looked legit. gave it a go and it was actually very very good. its indian but run by Himalayans. its prob one of the best indians ive been to. every dish we got had a himalayan twist, which is really refreshing. no grease or fat. i had the chefs speciality lamb shank, was pretty spicy but full of other flavours, unlike most curry houses which just make it hot as possible with no real taste.
my parents dishes were great too, ive forgot what they got but was prob better than mine.
beer was great too, some imported himalayan stuff, far better than tiger/cobra.
overall - prob best indian ive been to, strange that its in the suburbs of london but will deffo go again when next down with my parents. toptable review of 8.9 is a bit high. id give 7.5
