but i feel like such a puff on the bench press, is there anyway of building up strength on that muscle group without looking like a dick lifting tiny weights.
or is it just best to struggle through and work my way up?
trust me mate nobody there gives a fuk about what you're lifting. it's your own vanity that's making you feel self conscious. Just lift the right amount of weight for you and concentrate on your form. You'll soon find you're lifting more.

That is very low for an adult man

Still you have to start somewhere. If you can get a mate to spot you then you could try doing 3 or 4 reps of 10Kg a side for example. Good way to increase your strength quickly.

Agree with those two. Just get on with it and do low weights.
People who know will have more respect for skinny people doing the right exercises at low weight, than they will skinny people using some wank machine or something.
Best way to progress, do the exercise you want to get better at.

These diets are crazy, I lost 4 stone last year 6-7 months, just reduced my calories by about 500 and a bit of exercise, I think chicken and snack-a-jacks were my saviours.

everyone has to start somewhere, he'll probably be up to 15kg/side by christmas if he goes consistently and eats properly

Beginners always have the fastest gains once they get going.
