Went to see Lee "Memphis" King as Elvis On Tour last night

Was a bit dubious about going to see a tribute act, but he was actually really good. The Vegas years Elvis was fantastic, and Burning Love and Suspicious Minds were fucking brilliant

I saw The Dead weather a few weeks back at the academy in leeds, really good atmosphere the band sounded great and Alison Mosshart is even sexier live.
Been invited to go and see the White Lies in sheffield, has anyone seen them before? i like the album but wouldnt chose to go off my own back tbh. Is it worth going even if your not a huge fan?

went to see the fall last night at koko.
was the first time i've been to see them live and it was really fucking good, I was so glad to see that they are still as good as ever (even though mark.e.smith is the only remaining member and the others seem to change daily
).
they played pretty much all recent stuff which has once again shown that their sound can evolve into a new contemporary one, which was great as they could easily just have played their amazing old stuff but no, they are still a fully functioning band that is still recording and their gonna play their new shit.
was also really cool to see what type of people go to see them, there were lots of middle age guys who have been watching them since they started and were being rather immature, there was the odd asian super fan and loads of young peeps, was very good to see that their fan base is constantly gaining younger generations support (including myself).

I went with the missus who is a big fan -she was completely underwhelmed. Wouldn't say shit, but no interaction with the audience and dropped off a number of crowd pleasers from the set. Humbug is good but didn't feel it worked that well live.
Alex Turner, as pointed out on here, is looking cooler these days but needs to respect what made them what they are.

i think he was sick of loutish mongs coming to his gigs (not saying anything about your bird) because it was becoming an oasis type thing, i.e. singing the famous songs for drunken idiots to sing along to whilst on top of their mates shoulders, also it seems like they are changing up their style a bit, so hes dropped all the "crowd pleasers".
its a bit of a piss take for people that are going there to hear particular stuff but overall very important for the band in the long run and is basically part of the evolution of their musical style thats been taking place recently.

yeah I know - i respect what he/they are trying to do, and I think it will work in the long run. Last night however it felt like there were a lot of people who were seeing them for the first time and the atmosphere makes the night really.
Edit - should point out the main reason we didnt enjoy it was because of the loutish mongs who had switched off from the gig and started acting up - difficult balance to strike.

Julian Casablancas: Awesome night… didn't expect him to have 6 band members behind him! Particularly liked "I'll try anything once (You only live once demo)" even if it is a Stokes song (its this for anyone that hasn't heard The Strokes - I'll Try Anything Once )
