what clubs does everyone use? i was just at the driving range trying some irons out as i want to replace my ancient clubs. picked out five different 7 irons

nike sumo - hated it
ping G10 - liked this and was consistently accurate but lacking distance
mizuno mx200 - ok
some callaway model i forgot the name of - slightly behind the mizuno
wilson di9 distance irons - consistently hit this 20yds further than the other clubs (probably the 7 iron = a 5.5 iron Laughing out loud )

tempted by the wilson ones but will prob end up doing the ping thing

Forgot I made this thread.

Update; Still playing once a week and try to get down the driving range as much as possible, but still terrible Laughing out loud
I feel like I've got better, but my scorecards aren't really showing it Cry
Really looking forward to the summer though

Also, since i last posted, i've swapped some of my clubs about.
I've now got;
3 wood (never used it)
5,7,9 irons
sand,pitcher
putter

Where Im playing at the moment each hole is roughly 150 yards, so im teeing with a 7, just recently fixed a huge hook i used to have after trying a new technique at the range, on the course it came back a little though, which was pretty frustrating, it either always hooks a little, or i get a curl going to my left (hook-side)
planning on lessons soon

i had the exact same problem when i started, i was hooking it a ridiculous amount. i had 5 lessons and it was fixed, still do it every now and then but not enough to be annoyed at.

im always interested to see how far people hit with certain clubs. 150yards for you is 7 iron, for me id hit a 9, proepr strange though coz im a skinny retch, but hit far further than my dad whos a muscle man

I still use my TiSi 10.5 and my eye3i irons. Never did make a blind but of difference to my game; a friend plays off 14 with a £150 set! ….although my driver is sweet when I catch it well.

yeah, hopefully my lessons will fix it, like it did with you.
i never attempt to hit it full power, because my whole swing goes down the pan, i completely lose it, definitely more technique than strength

fatb a 9 150 is good form, you must have a good swing.
My handicap went up over the weekend, I went to 24.5 so i am 25 ! lol
Played with an injury and struggled with a half botch swing and got 25 points in stableford.

Planning on getting down the range alot this summer, when i am not working on my six pack.

Played on Saturday, wasn't too bad, went round 11 over par which I was quite pleased with considering the horrendous wind. Starting to get into it again after a long break over the winter. Got a charity day at Morley Hayes on Weds with my mate, my brother and mate's brother. We make a pretty unstoppable team, won the last 6 charity days we have entered as a team.

On the distance thing, 150 in is a pitching wedge for me. Sometimes a gap wedge if it's a little down hill or if the pin is at the front of the green.

would you say that is you playing at fulls wing, full power for a pitch to 150??

i got told about a year ago that i should start to use a lower club like an 8 to hit 150, and to ease it to the pin rather than smash the shit off it.

ive tried to do that but i just love hammering it to be honest

Well my swing is quite slow and smooth so I don't try to smash the shit off it, if you try to hit it further, it will go less. All about rhythm. Obviously I differentiate the power if I want to put on or take off spin or if there's wind in play, but on a typical day a smooth full swing will get a pitching wedge 150ish for me.

one problem i have is that i base my distances on how far i hit each club at the driving range.

as this is slightly uphill and using range balls i tend to take more club than i need when on the course and overhit fairly often

need to play more on the course i guess.

since i started playing again, my best is +14 (was level after first 5 holes Eek ) so some way to go to beat my record of +8 achieved several years ago.

i just try to aim to get under 90 every round.
