Attended a pre-lesson sex education class for my 10 year old kid (she's class 5 or 3rd year of Juniors for old skool FUK'ers); basically the school presents to parents what they intend to show the kids as part of the curriculum as it's down to individual schools how they interpret the requirements.

They showed us a 12 minute video that for the most part was drama free however near the end during a Q&A style session a kid asked the 14 year old actor 'What's wanking?'. Now, I'm no prude but I really took issue with the phrase and even the introduction of masturbation to 10 year olds. Raised my objections at the meeting and was told patronisingly that '…kids grow up quickly nowadays, Burt'.

Fuck off. No way that 9 and 10 year old kids need to know about that. Can't take the kid outta the class cos she'll be outta the loop in terms of her peers and the playground chat (email and subsequent phone conversation with the Head did sod all) so just gotta go with it and had to have a chat with her this morning about it all. Poor kid didn't know what hit her.

Haven't got kids so speaking from a totally uninformed position from that perspective. But it's easy to see that kids definitely are learning a lot about everything at a faster rate. Not talking about sex specifically, just literally everything. Astonishes me some of the stuff my mates 7-10 year olds know or talk about, swear they're smart AF compared to when we were that age.

Anyway, reason I say all this is because whilst it may be patronising, I think they're trying to say that kids will find this stuff out with or without a guided programme, but they're better off learning it early in school than through exploring themselves. Information travels fast now and your kid doesn't even have to look for it first-hand, because some other kid with lax parents will probably have unfettered Internet access and will be doing their own "research" and then telling all the other kids.

Also think about the fact that the UK has one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the UK. I can see why they'd be trying to teach kids ASAP these days. Only problem is not all kids need that information at the same time, but they can't exactly pick and choose who they think needs it. They must evaluate when the safest / earliest / most effective possible age is and apply that to all. Your child might not need it, but another kid might that it may help curb.

But gain like I said, I'm not a parent, so looking at it from a purely objective/outside/informational perspective.

I think using the word wanking is a bit much for a class of 10 year olds

Oh yeah I 1million % missed the point of the post Laughing out loud

Maybe. Still think my point applies - won't loads of kids potentially hear or have heard words like that around that age, though?

My 10 and 6 year old had their talks a week or so a go.

10 year old was pretty clued up already thanks to my partner as she’s “developing” early Sad

My 6 year old however has been walking round telling us what a penis and vagina is Eek (have had to have a conversation about when it’s appropriate to use the terms).

I’m so glad my 3rd was a boy cos worrying about girls is just awful.

Sold our house 6 months ago and put everything in storage so we were chain-free and in the best possible position. Ported our mortgage so it's just sitting there waiting to be applied to a new place, nice load of equity in the bank. We're the perfect buyers.

Lost our 3rd place today after our offer was accepted 2 months ago - 'the vendor's decided today they don't actually want to move'

ffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuu EvilEvilEvilEvil

Finally exchanged on house no.4 today Cool

had an offer accepted on a new place at the end of May. it is a new build so there is no chain but we still haven't even got an exchange date due to the ineptness of our solicitors. they are so so so shit and slow. it is so painfully obvious that we need them so much more than they need us…. we can't sack them off now as we are so close to the end, but i so wish we could

wish I had gone for somewhere local and coughed up a bit more cash. the lack of communication and clarity in this whole process is so fucking frustrating

tips etc?

I had the same experience, took months even though the seller and vendor with no chain was the same solicitor. My buyer went on holiday for a month, so unable to respond. Wasn't even told about it until after they came back.

Have you asked what exactly is the issue?
If it’s a new build then they should be able to turn things around pretty quick.
With a new build, the essential documents that they need to obtain are the planning permission, building regulation approval and new home warranty.

How much are you paying?
I had three quotes from solicitors when I did mine and went for the middle option but after I was reviewing the documents, there was nothing that an online £700 solicitor couldn’t have done.

Big tip:
In retrospective I would have asked my solicitor to obtain the test results from the builders “Document E soundproofing”.
I’m having big issues with this now and if I had known the test results or lack of testing then I might have pulled out.
