Does anyone know how much a desktop mac would cost me wit hthe student discount price? I cant access the site at home.

Also, what benefits are there buying a mac over a pc? Is it really worth the extra money?

Think it works out about 14%.

You're never going to get a true and unbiased answer about the benefits of one over the other, as pretty much everyone has a preference.

Speaking for myself (and bearing in mind I've only used a PC a few times in the past 10 years), I find Macs more intuitive and easier to use.

The best thing is to go along to your local Apple reseller (John Lewis and PC World both have them if you're not near an Apple Store) and have a play with one and see if you like it.

A mates macbook is playing up. silver job about 4 years old. wont hold charge in the battery and will turn off even with the power cord in. suspect it's the battery but maybe the cord. He's been quoted £100 and £75 respectively. Anywhere to get them cheaper and do they sound the likely cause?

Macbook power adaptors are £58 at the Apple UK Store.

The price for the battery seems about right, they are £97 at Apple.

Was shocked to find that myself as a MacBook user… Hope my power adaptor or battery doesn't go!

Its pretty fucked, no idea how i did it. I got the computer about 6 months ago so its still under warranty is there any way that i can get this repaired, preferably for free

Thats crazy, i've had some trouble with the hinge on my MacBook Pro as well, it seems really stiff. If you try to close it quickly you hear a creak/crack noise. Doesn't sound healthy. Hope you can get that sorted by Apple under warranty, just book an appointment at one of the stores, and just be honest. Most of the time they figure out if your spinning them a story and are more likely to do a sympathy/good will free repair if your honest.

Seems like a common problem Best: http://www.crashzone.com.au/2009/02/04/apple-macbook-air-has-a-defect-hinge-problem/

Apple will hopefully be aware of it and repair it for free.

im very new to macs. I think mine has some sort of virus on it as its gone really slow all of a sudden. I swear i read somewhere you cant get viruses/trojans etc on a MAC but this has to be a myth right? Anyay if there anyway of clearing like cookies and all other shit off a MAC or can anyone reccomend a good virus protector or way of removing viruses if i have one?

Cheers

I've been using macs for nearly 20 years and have never had a virus - if you have a problem it's more likely to be something to do with memory/hard drive space - what are the specs on your mac?
