Usually need the DNS settings if that happens, remember it in case. Eye-wink

i haven't got the internet in my halls at uni, but i was using my mac for some work before and clicked the airport, saw this:

so i selected free public wifi and that little box thing came up over the airport signal strength…what is it? it connected to the wifi thing fine but i still couldn't use the net
any ideas?

You need more settings than you think you do, DNS being the first stop.

could you elaborate on that a bit please? what is the symbol for? what dns settings do i need…i'm pretty clueless

so,im gettin a macbook.urgency istn that bad,but my current laptop is SHITE.shud i wait till septemberoctober when i go to uni to get one,if i get one now will an upgrade happen later on in ther year?

Depends on whether you actually need one now. An update will always be around the corner so chasing the elusive better model will get you nowhere. If you can wait, do it.

I reckon alongside the Leopard release which is 'Spring 07', another few months I expect.

EDIT: Didn't notice Andy's but doesn't look like I was far off. Be worth the wait if you can I think.

a new sub sized macbook has been hinted to be released in q2 2007. gonna be expensive though as the plan is for the notebook to use flash memory to keep size down and battery life up.

Never heard of those files but i have used this and it unzips everything, so to speak

apparently a .z01 file is caused when something is split into several different zips

eg
file.zip
file.z01
file.z02

and you need to have them all in the same place (eg Desktop) and unzip the .zip file first - the rest should then (apparently) unzip automatically
