As much as I am an Apple devotee, I refuse to let them pretend they've invented something new, just by calling it something else Smiling

Same, defo didn't see them refreshing the iPad before the year cycle ended, but now it means pretty much all of their products are now in sync.

Also, how can they say that iMac is 5mm thin? It has that fucking massive bump on the back Laughing out loud

ipad mini screen resolution is backwards and low, just a cop out for app capability. disappointed they just went cheap instead of technically outstanding at 7"

hence the mini is not required! it has weakened the ip, just filling the market gap, they dont need a cheap product. the nexus 7 is technically better it has a 8GB version for £159 and 16GB for £199, better screen more features etc.

that is a better competition for the kindle etc.

of course if all your stuff is apple then the mini works for 1 handed operation, 10" is more 2 hand or on a stand operation.

Can pick up a cheapo external bluray drive for about 70-80 on amazon which will handle dvds and cds too so not too bad (as oppose to picking up apples own overpriced one that only does dvds)

Yeah the Nexus has better hardware but I always found Android apps lacking in terms of breadth and quality.

I be waiting for the Win8 tablets myself and see how they fair.

How many of you have replaced your laptops with iPads then? I'll be honest, I just don't get it, just all feels so restrictive and cumbersome but i'm obviously in the minority. The penny hasn't dropped with this mini one anymore than it did with the big one.

Well I had every iteration of the ipad so far but I always find them nice to read pdfs, mags but pretty much pointless for everything else.

I like the new Windows8 tablets coming out soon, where I can have a tablet experience and then dock with a keyboard for more productive work.

I know people who have, but they dont "do" anything with their laptops.

If you dont do anything, such as office work, photoshop stuff, camera processing, specialist flash video streaming websites etc. and just browse, email and consume media, then you dont need a laptop, in that case an ipod 3 is a shit hot item.

I think about it all the time but I cant see the point of owning both.

Then again if I get tablet(s) and phones through work for free for test purposes I would use them.

I understand it as a pdf reading device or as something to show clients presentations on etc etc but for most normal computing tasks, I don't get it.

Even for just using the internet, me sitting here browsing this website, typing this message is a much more frustrating experience on an iPad than it is on a laptop.

After a hour it does for me, but the form factor is nice and convenient. One thing I forget to add is the Retina screen is gorgeous for looking at artwork which i use to proof stuff at home.

So anyone going to cop the latest ipad here?

its not for forums or "websites", thats dead to apple.

web browsing is dead to them because you cant ring fence access, application control and charging.

Everything has been very simplified and consumerized since the ipad, browse the daily mail website on the web or through their app, same content, different formatting (just), just easier to press the app button than open a browser, choose a bookmark link, and bring it up.

Its genius because its exactly the same but one requires an apple account, tied in and controlled for that extra abstraction level which is totally trivial.

considering with html5 as google and others have shown there is no difference at all apart from the browser bar and url.

build it in html 5 and it is cross platform or make an apple app, android app, windows 8 app etc.

you dont need a optical drive anymore because with the new ios you have to go through menu after menu to allow you to install something from outside the app store and why would you? the consumer just press app store and buys what they are looking for completing the monopoly, optical drives allow 3rd party installations. you could get it from the web but using a browser is so old fashioned!

safari will be next to go.

I'm surprised they didn't have the sack to ditch HDD completely and just run flash, HDD is off plan, only the imac can have them so limited buying power, off course they made custom cables so you cant upgrade.

aside from that all the boards are the same as a macbook.

One reason for me the iPad is better then anything else. I have about 50 fashion blogs/onoinemagazines i read. I have them all rss´ed into google reader, that i put onto the Flipboard on the iPad. Boom! Best magazine ever, constantly updated, and i choose the content. Hard for me to replace that with anything else.
