If the Surface Book 2 next year is as good as this I may switch from Apple for the first time in 10 years….

the 'problem' with everything nice or 'expensive' is that u have to take care for it.and i guess people treat a 500 quid medion laptop differently, than a 2k macbook pro. The overall build quality of macs is of course better, but the pricepoint is on a whole different level so u can't really compare. Just checked out some windows based laptops/computers on a store nearby and i have to admit that all of them looked or felt like shit. Laughing out loud (surface excluded…)
i didn't even found some good locking clean case to built one by myself…
they all look like futuristic black/red colored robot machines.

I agree, but the OS is a huge factor for how quickly windows machines degrade and fill up with crap. I am convinced that because mac os is unix based, far less goes wrong and things don't clog up so quickly.

I have a mid-range dell desktop at work with 8gb RAM, brand new 1 year ago, and I only use it for standard things like office and some other statistical packages and it is just getting so painfully slow now. everyday at 4pm it does a virus check (fucking LOL) and it renders it unusable. this was not the case 1 year ago where I was actually surprised at how fast it was for a windows machine.

new Kaby Lake Razors could be a good alternative to MBP - no UK sales tho.

i'm about to pick up a new 'old' 15" macbook pro (2,5ghz quad, 512 ssd, 16gb ram, 2gb amd graphic)
these are 800 euro cheaper than the new ones, almost the same chip + i'll use it mainly with an extra screen anyway…
anyone with a good point against the older version and paying the extra cash for the new version (beside the better screen, touchbar, bigger touchpad)? any help appreciated.

only plus I can see of the new one is the screen and the weight. there are way more downsides to the new one (no usbs, no magsafe). its a no brainer

i was thinking about resell value as a good point for the new ones, but considering that i don't want to sell it anyway within the next 3+ years and the older versions are so much cheaper atm it's not really a point for the new ones. Personally i would've prefered a 13", but the update to a 15" inch makes sense because of the quad intels, but thats about it. cheers swede, u got me with no usbs Laughing out loud

Still got the 2012 Macbook Pro with 2,5GHZ i5 and 4GB RAM which works like a charm. Would recommend getting this one on a budget and then upgrade the ram to 16GB and put in a SSD where the disk drive now sits.
