the old blue last in shoreditch is a pretty good 'alternative' pub, owned by vice magazine.

had a few good nights in there, bright clothes, skinny jeans crowd, felt a bit of a prat at my age, only for 10 mins though!

On the Thursday there is a night called 'If it's too loud turn it down' at Catch (22 Kingsland Road, it's indie type stuff but meant to be good.
In terms of good pubs there is The Golden Heart by Spitalfieds, The Pride of Spitalfields (just off of Brick Lane), The Horse and Groom (Curtain Road), Cat and Mutton (Broadway Market), Dove (Broadway Market), Carpenters Arms (Cheshire street), Dolphin (Hackney), Macbeth (Hoxton Street - usually have to pay to get in but open late), Red Lion (Hoxton Street).
Russian bar on Kingsland road is usually ok and open late. Visions video on Kingsland Road (dalston end) is decent too. Avoid Trailer Trash on Friday
Sure they'll be some stuff going on, if I hear of anything i'll PM you

The best bar is just down the road from you - Lounge Bohemia. Definately check this out for a couple of cocktails before you go out. Paul who runs it only wears Number Nine, Undercover and Neighborhood. For upmarket, check the new Conran thing The Boundary and the Tom Dixon designed Shoreditch House round the corner.
For pubs, Carpenter's Arms, Commercial Tavern, Ten Bells, Royal Oak on Columbia Road. Moustache Bar in Dalston is good, up from Visions etc but might be closed still for refurbishment. Work It at Visions, which might be on that weekend, is fun if you like hip hop and rnb from the 90's.
Avoid Hoxton Pony, Old Blue Last, everything on Old Street, Foundry (full of bike messengers/local tramps), everything on hoxton square.

Yeah so does my girlfriend, she thinks it's a gay site.
Anyway Royal Oak was a good shout on the pub front, food is good in there as well. I think Mustache bar is having licensing issues, couple of my mates have been supposed to DJ there and there is always some drama, cool bar though if it is open.
If you are looking for places to eat Les Trois Garcon is cool, pricey but worth it, been there a few times and the food is always excellent. Albion at the Boundary Project that Jimm mentioned is new Conran restaurant that's meant to be cheap and really good

There's a pretty good pub not far from there called the Morgan Arms heading towards Mile End Road. Food is topper and some good ales going too, generally. No need to book. Sure it was Evening Standard Gastro Pub of the Year a year or two back. Me and the girlfriend always head down when we're visiting friends down there.
