Probably retarded question, but with all these companies like Lloyds' share prices dropping (52p atm), would it be a good idea to buy? I mean they're going to recover at some point right?

Government won't be selling anytime soon (only selling if they rise above 70p or something afaik), so what would be the best way to go about doing this?

Not a bad investment - probably looking at a minimum of a two year holding. I bought a few at approx 47.5 the other day.

Borrow 15k from here, buy shares in Lloyds & Barclays, wait 23 months until they recover, sell, pay off the 15k debt. Easy money, what could possibly go wrong?

I bought a chunk of those and of construction firms in 2008/2009 when they hit their lows last time. Cleared a decent profit on them but took three years. If you have money you dont need its not a bad idea, but if you might need access to it in the next 3-5 years you will need to be careful as you might be sitting on a serious loss. If you do buy, dont look at the price everyday, it will just drive you mad.

was 40% up on berkley group shares. that dwindled closer to the referendum, but as I thought we would stay they were just gonna jump again. how wrong i was Sad

petra diamonds and bank of georgia have been my best recent investments. 50% return on petra and 40% on bgeo in 6 months.

easyjet the worst Sad Sad Sad

Quite fancy interserve at the moment. SP Halved recently off contract gone wrong, brexit took another chunk and CEO said he doesnt want to put out another bad update so hoping that the worst is out and SP will normalise to the reasonable level the dividend should demand.

Yes been in IRV for a while, bought down to 280 then put some spreads on. Even got one on yesterday at 8:20 after reading results that went up 10% in the day.

It is still yielding 6.8% on forecast divi so would be a good buy for anyone at the current 380 or so price. Target for sale for me is 450 or so. It's not going to be a smooth ride if we do slip into recession.

Just bought into oil this morning. The IEA just released some research where they think the massing of surplus going to switch into going into decline in the later six months of the year. They are reporting production will slip below demand and then the saudi's have finally said they want to do something about the price (i.e. reduce output to restrict supply and force the price up) in the next few months and will discuss at the next OPEC.
I do spread bet rather than shares on oil, more direct but can (and has often in last year) move 10% in a day.

10% each way though Laughing out loud

It does look promising though. not into spread betting to be honest, fair play to you though

Ye usually 10% down immediately after putting the position on. Spreading ok if you can stomach the margin requirements but it's definitely not for everyone. I can see how people lose vast sums quickly.
