Concrete wasn't too pricey for the countertop. Took about 3 days to polish it once it had been poured in situ. The concrete sink however was quite expensive and I'm not entirely happy with it. We should be getting an additional cantilevered countertop running parallel to the window which might be painful on the wallet Laughing out loud

Kitchen has been designed with the same pared down aesthetic in mind as the vitsoe shelves and cabinets (which are being installed soon) and custom sprayed in the same RAL colour. I quite like how the horizontal aluminium strips in the kitchen mimic the vertical vitsoe e tracks.

We did think of going for concrete flooring but felt it would be a bit too cold and sterile looking and decided the reclaimed chevron flooring (not herringbone X!) would add warmth and was sort of inspired by the herringbone floor in the vitsoe showroom which is arts and crafts rather than modernist but never mind.

I'll get some pictures up when the vitsoe is installed across 3 walls and will incorporate my vintage braun audio stuff.

Cheers all for the comments

hmm Vitsoe, do you actually have a large collection of books like Seenmy or a large collection of records or CDs?

I have 100's of books.one of the walls will be used for 3 banks of floor to ceiling 90cm bays just for books.
I've owned my vitsoe system for 6 years and all of my stuff has been packed away until we got the house configured so we knew where the shelves and cabinets were going.
Also having a wall for audio stuff including vinyl (36cm deep shelves are perfect for that )

Living with minimal storage for a year and having 3 kids has been a pain in the ass Laughing out loud

do you have giant novelty letters? You should put some of those on your shelf, spell out "house" or "love" or some shit.

Can't imagine the old braun audio gear sounding too good. Seems you have money, should get some proper floor standers, a hi end turntable and tube amps etc

Nah serious I can't understand someone using audio gear just for what the casing looks like, it's got to sound good too surely?

vitsoe to fit this afternoon but found a cracking braun-esque 60's lamp for the cabinets

anyone know if I can just use the 2 core on a 3 pin as it's metal or re-wire 3 core and earth it - just want to retain the og switch etc.

Ah big difference there, Pops is planning to use the Braun gear to listen to records, I don't use my virtual boy, it's just for looks. Now if Pops was displaying the Braun stuff but actually listening on a decent setup then that's different.

Personally I like the sound of CD and SA-CD on late 90s Sony ES gear. It gives a clean neutral sound and the gear is built like tanks, everything, including the internals are durable and long lasting.

I don't personally like the sound of vinyl, it's a terrible ad-hoc format, not really designed for music like CD was. People might feel nostalgia for that sound but I want a sound as close as possible to the studio master.

So no I can't recommend any gear for vinyl but I know some people are into tube stuff for vinyl. I mean you could probably get that "warm" pleasing undistorted big sound from vinyl on a good system but to me it would still be "colored" by the poor format and often poor mastering on releases.

I know that serious vinyl guys would never listen to records on a kitchy little toy like the Braun gear Pops is talking about though

The braun set up is fine for my purposes. I don't have an awful lot of time to sit around listening to music these days & as mrs sure isn't going to let me bust out my 1210's anytime soon it'll just be good to be able to blow the dust off some of the vinyl

Coffee aficionado's aren't going to like it but this beaut (with more than a nod to braun) will give me an adequate first caffeine hit of the day
