Looks clean, that virtual boy Ubercool . I thought Australia was very expensive I'm surprised a bachelor can afford a place like that.

Easy enough to repair tiny holes from hanging some prints.

Melbourne is the Hong Kong of Australia, 6,000 new apartments went up last year in the CBD, rents are going down, a lotta places are empty and owners are desperate. Different story in Sydney, don't think I could afford to rent my own place there. Buying is still ridiculous though, renting is a bargain. Then again I don't run a car, eat out for more than $10 a meal or go on holidays ever so to me it's my only big expense. Got plenty to save up for that next piece of Herman Miller…

My place is kinda old, shitty, poorly built (can hear the neighbors), I used to live in a way better speced new place (solid concrete walls) and double glazing. I moved coz I wanted to be closer to work and save some money. Dumb move, I shoulda stayed, that old place was worth the 20 minute commute. At the end of my lease here I'm def moving to another newer better built place.

REAs in Australia are like SS troops, they do inspections every 3 months and take pictures for the owners, if you're not looking after the place (ie pics on walls without permission) you get warning letters and shit.

I have nothing good to hang anyway. More and more I'd rather have nothing or what I'm going to use for life (ie expensive) than piecemeal it until I can afford the real thing.

That old fake Nelson bench I had taught me that. Every day I looked at it and it pissed me off. I wished I'd kept the $100 it cost me and had nothing until I got the real. Fake furniture or generic prints are the same as fake clothing labels and (most) generic mass produced clothing, it sucks.

had to get one just to display since I saw it in Shinji Takeda's apartment in Tokyo Eyes in like '98, one of my favorite Japanese movies (even tho it's a French co production). Had a massive crush on Hinano Yoshikawa then too.

hey found some pics of the VB in the movie:

Do you think you are the only westerner on the planet who wishes he was a jap? Isnt it supposed to be the other way around?

I'm Working with a developer at the moment who is fitting alno into a residential development.
They invited him to the factory which is in Germany next door to the sciematic and poghen pohl factories.
They've all been based in the same town for decades and quality seems the same for all.
alno sell more to the Germans than the other two but don't have as big a marketing budget for the UK.
All in all great quality for the price indeed.
They are about to roll out supply to end users in uk rather than just to commercials and so should become more accessible very soon.

I have an Alno kitchen and like it a lot, qualitative-wise and also the looks of it.
I was more in the mid-price range.
Poggenpohl on the other hand is high-end stuff and really expensive.
Both are manufactured in the town next to mine, as well as Siematic. It's some kind of kitchen mecca.

Thanks all.

I am going to run through design and quote with Alno and Poggenpohl and then work out whether the price differential is justifiable. Poggenpohl also do a mid range brand called Goldreif which looks more comparable to Alno.
