PaulFowler, your place looks dumb. I can tell a girl forced you to have some dumb stuff like a colorful rug and some pillows in fashionable colours. Everything looks cheap. And what's the point of having a print mostly obscured by a sofa? Is that your girl's idea of being cool and ironic? But I guess that's the price you pay to get some. Can't say I'm getting any.

How much should you be able to clear a hanging light by height wise? I'm 6ft and the ceilings in my place aren't that high so Ive realised most of the lighting I had short listed is probably not suitable, specifically the living room. The one I had wanted I would only just be able to walk under, this would look daft right?

I figure in some rooms e.g. bedrooms its maybe not as much of an issue, but living room a light almost hitting eye level will look stupid?

Anyone know anything about SIP construction?
About to undertake a large building project and ideally require a prefab or offsite solution for the construction

What the fuck did you just fucking say about Paul Fowler, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

I actually did consider some 606 shelving recently because it does seem good and readily available but can't really do it in a rental and then I also remembered I hate Europe. I prefer to keep everything a focused set, so Herman Miller only, Nelson and Eames' only (with a lil 90s Stumpf of course). Made in USA for USA only. The Eames ESUs will work in a rental as well. They're my next target along with an EDU.

I really like 606 in odd corners as one linear book shelf or simply spaced, was never into the going crazy on the modular style, ESU's a classic. I respect the thoroughness of your style, though was always more prone to Prouvé over Eames for desk systems, has a more masculine/business aesthetic in my mind at least the king of small desks versus Eames who made the best chairs. Eames desks always bordered on Art/Sculptutres opposed to a Classic work desk for me personally

If you get over your hatred of Europe, you should definately look into Prouvé, amazing stuff can be found for relatively good prices used (plus always look better with age/wear on them)

Well yeah I have a lot of Laserdiscs and CDs that will continue to increase in number and a no bullshit modular system that's still in production like the 606 shelving would actually make the most sense, but from what I can tell you HAVE to anchor it to a cieling or wall with screws and I can't do that without owner permission, which I wouldn't get. ESUs with the dimpled doors look so iconic and are obviously freestanding and fit in better with my other stuff but are less ideal for storing large numbers of media. I'll make it work tho.

ESU's a classic. I respect the thoroughness of your style, though was always more prone to Prouvé over Eames for desk systems, has a more masculine/business aesthetic in my mind at least the king of small desks versus Eames who made the best chairs. Eames desks

I finally got to sit at an Eames desk the other day, the owner of Luke in Melbourne has one in his office. It's so well scaled. It sits a little higher than modern desks which surprised me coz the recliner is too small for me, although the sofa compact is perfect. There's a reason the aeron is always pictured with the EDU, the arm rests perfectly fit under the line of the desk witout having the chair too low.

Trust me the EDU isn't art, it's a functional and ergonomic desk. The colored panels aren't really art, just the Eames' sense of fun, not taking themselves too seriously like Europeans.

If you get over your hatred of Europe, you should definately look into Prouvé, amazing stuff can be found for relatively good prices used (plus always look better with age/wear on them)

I can't stand the world view of most Europeans, they constantly brag about how their culture and history is the best but they haven't brought anything good to the world for hundreds of years. I don't know how modern furniture can come from a place like Europe, for me it has to come from the new world, the practical minds of can-do Americans.

Maybe not quite the right thread given the quality Laughing out loud… I need a cheap sofa. Fitting out a rented apartment - presume there's no other place to go than Ikea?

Get on the bay of dreams or gumtree and get a second hand bo concept or something. Will look 100 times better than a ikea. Or try made.com or modern.co.uk depending on budget.
