Living Room floor about 50% done

The finished floor!

Does the bag attached suck up all the dust? Only reason I ask as SYM is wearing a mask. I'm thinking of sanding the floor of a room down but am wary of the dust situation as the walls have already been painted

I didn't realise the machine would be so fucking LOUD. Was going to start now, then realised I couldn't cos of the neighbours. Gave them a heads-up that I'm doing it tmw.
Failed straightaway with the sandpaper, after spending time making sure it was nice and tight, it caught fire as soon as I turned it on. Any tips from anyone who has done
this (SYM) would be appreciated.

What tips you after Billy?

The hardest thing when you sand floors is the prep work. Have you knocked in all of the nails and pins into the boards? This might be why the paper caught fire?

The bag (which was a pillow case) collects about 80% of the sawdust. The rest goes EVERYWHERE.

When you do it make sure you go up and down the boards then across them as well.

Sanding our dining room floor was the worst job I've ever done. Fucking mess everywhere, the bag was collecting very little dust, despite being regularly emptied. Even wearing a mask, I had orange snot for a couple of days after. The guys at the tool hire place told me to keep the paper really loose on the sander and gave me really shit paper, so the first couple of sheets got shredded straight away. I ended up having to buy better quality paper from somewhere else and kept the paper really tight, but it still disintergrated pretty quickly.

I really like Unhappy Hipsters. Not only because of the nice interiors but I often find the captions rather amusing as well.
