Want a big slab o' wood to use as a desktop - local timber merchants the best bet? Or any other ideas?

depends on size but I used ebay for some waney oak which was really cheap, seller/carpenter cut it to shape around a sink and sanded off the edges for an extra tenner.

Architectural Salvage places quite often have desk / table tops. There are quite a few sellers on eBay but delivery can be a killer.

Worktop Express worktops if you don't mind staves instead of one piece of wood.

I found this place that cuts wood to size but it gets pretty pricey at desk sizes.

Let me know if you find anything decent as I'm on the lookout too. Haven't made it to our local timber yards yet though.

Just started to read about stuff like prouve and royere so everything is much appreciated.

Get a subscription to Elle Decoration which has some great aspirational contemporary interiors.

I would recommend you don't buy cheap as with anything you get what you pay for.

Also, work out what output you need before you order. No good paying top brass for a fancy radiator if you're gonna be cold still.
Use a calculator such as this one to help work out what you need https://www.bestheating.com/btu-calculator?gclid=Cj0KCQjw5s3cBRCAARIsAB8ZjU3FOqgw2l4zgKU9r0Bv498JYrcLAY-XBbqSAm6xvHeburUkOTb-rL8aAoUQEALw_wcB&gclsrc;=aw.ds

I did last summer, cant really help with installers as i'm in Bristol but Origin (brand) doors were the best, ten year warranty. Smart systems only had 5 year plus the quality of their fixings were shit. Don't know much about Sunflex, think they were out of my price range

Get loads of quotes and play each firm off each other, they soon start throwing in stainless steel fixings and price matching. Good luck

No, your standard timber merchant won't carry slabs. It's all construction timber. Reclamation yards/architectural salvage as mentioned. Or somewhere local that specialises in slabs.

Any good joiner can install them. Simple job assuming there's no structural work required.

I've not been in the market for them but when I'm in stevenswood their bifolds on display seem decent quality. I think stevenswood is just sales now though so could be worth finding out who makes them and going direct.

Perfect - think it's a Wegner Shell Settee https://goo.gl/SEQAPH

The Ecrol may be something more in my price range though, cheers Dee

I've got an Ercol. Don't usually like their stuff but I am fond of the love seat.

i found this &tradition sofa for an amazing price (exhibition piece) and need a second opinion before i cop. I'm not 100% keen on the raf fabric, even though the bright grey linen look is growing on me and it would match perfectly with everything else….Thoughts?
