I want a couple of plug sockets I can control with the Google Home/Nest app, any recommendations? Just for a couple of lamps, so nothing fancy needed and the cheaper the better.

I have a Tom Dixon Cooper ball pendant which gave fuck all light out too, looks good though
I put a brighter bulb in it which improved it.
I have the Hay rope trick lamp which is good, you can have as an uplighter well you can point it at whatever angle you want and it's dimmable. Just the aesthetic isn't right for the room so I'm currently looking for something else too

Yea saw the IKEA ones but couldn't find any mention of working with Google Home in the description, probably going to go with the Screwfix ones cos its a lot closer than IKEA and I'm lazy, but cheers anyway I've heard the IKEA Tradfri range play quite nice with Homekit, so would assume you can use with google home too
I got a Herdysleep one it's good, it's a proper mattress though not a memory foam thing

Does anyone have an uplighter recommendation? We’ve just installed a Tom Dixon Melt and can barely tell that it’s turned on! Currently it’s the only light source (other than a Christmas tree) in quite a large room 7x8m

Had one and took it down because of the same.
They do look the business, but annoyed me that I had to keep using my uplighter which also wasn't bright enough to illuminate the room.
It looks like your room is finished now so don't think youre gonna want to do something like this, but I installed the same pendant for a customer but also dimmable downlights on their own switch which worked and looked nice when it was all done.
