anyone know what upgrade option are for existing o2 customers(non iphone). some people say you can cancel your existing contract aslong as your willing to take out a new 18month iphone contract, but then some people saying thats not the case. the sales people at o2 dont seem to have a clue either.

Are you mid-contract at the moment R?

I've got about 4 months left on my contract and i'm thinking of upgrading. Don't want any extra charges though.

if youre on a standard non iphone contract you can only upgrade until the month before your contract ends.

if youre already on an iphone contract you should be able to upgrade straight away with you signing up to a new 18 month deal the moment you purchase the new iphone 3g.

But there appear to be absolutely no benefits for existing o2 customers wishing to upgrade compared to those completely new to o2. You still have to pay for the bloody thing unless you're stupid enough to pay £45/£75 a month on your contract. What a farce…

I'm trying to pin down o2 on this because at the moment their customer loyalty fails me.

last upgraded about 10 months ago on a 18 month contract, spend quite a lot though so they usually let me upgrade fairly regularly

I'm sure if you upgraded to any other phone you would get it free or a nice discount. The nature of the iPhone is that Apple wants a good cut of the profits, and they are basing how they sell them on the US market…. they want you to pay for the thing.

Enough people have got them as it is, if they start doing it on free upgrade, literally EVERYONE will have one. They need to try and keep so exclusivity so thinks its good that they charge for the handset.

saw the new one in the apple store yesterday, there were 30-40 nutters queuing to get one of which a good 70% were oriental Laughing out loud

i thought it was pretty shit to be honest, its a step back design wise and the only features that have been improved are the ones i don't use, the 3g is pretty pointless imo

the white looked cool but not a patch on the og silver
