Carphone warehouse are cunts, I bought an iPhone last August handset only from them, just got a EE SIM to use as my 02 contract is up and they are doing full monty for £16 a month, went to put my new SIM in and its not recognized, went to carphone they said that the iPhone locks to the first SIM you put in it when you buy it, apparently its only carphone that sell them like this. Surely if they didn't explain that to me then I should be able to get an exchange from them?!?!? As now I can't use my phone with my new SIM, any suggestions?
Well if it's registered to O2 as that was your first sim and it's pay monthly O2 offer a free unlocking service. Google it in and there's a form to fill out, but instead of filling it out, go to the livechat and speak with one of the customer support reps and they put in a direct unlock request so they say it will take 3 days but from experience took no more than a day
If that doesn't work there's sites where you pay about 15 quid and it unlocks the phone for you, can recommend some if need be

Yeah it's always been like that with CPW. Just book a genius appointment and get your phone switched to a new replacement, say something is wrong with the speaker. Apple will give you a new unlocked handset. Or you probably have to pay o2 an unlocking fee to unlock it. two options there.
edit: while we are on the subject of iPhones, there is bargain iPhone 5 to be had in classifieds!

I can't believe they can get away with that without telling me that it will lock when I put the SIM in, what a farce.
O2 have said that because I am not using the phone they gave me with the contract they can't unlock it?
Surely if I book a genius appointment they will check to see if there is a problem? If I say its a speaker issue what won't they just listen to it and hear that there isn't?
