My 4S battery keeps dying when it's showing 30-40%, took it to Apple and they want £59 to replace the battery as it's a month out of warranty Evil Can I replace it myself easily and cheaply?

Only alternative is to claim for a new phone on insurance with a £40 excess.

I had to use my missus' old 4s when my phone was in for repair… exact same issue.

Apparently the batteries have a lifespan of around 400 charges before they start deteriorating.

Replacing them is a piece of piss - two screws on the bottom and two on the inside, but unfortunately it never solved the issue for me at all.
It might be down to the quality of replacement battery I bought as it was only around £7 posted.

If you're going to take the punt, just make sure you get one with the mini screwdrivers and plastic levers necessary to do the job.

Don't know if this is old news/common knowledge but thought i would share.

Dropped my phone ( iPhone 5s) down the toilet about a month ago, did everything i could to save it: soaked motherboard in alcohol etc etc. Unfortunately despite my best efforts the phone was broken, i could use it but the screen/ blacklight had been affected and so my brightness was at such a level i could only see my phone in a pitch black room. Went to various shops about trying to replace certain parts of the phone but they all said it was damaged beyond repair due to the water.

So i went online and bought a pack of the water indicator stickers from eBay and replaced them making sure there was no other signs of water damage inside the phone. I went into the genius bar in glasgow today ( bearing in mind that the employees at the "genius" bar are generally not as clued up about the phone etc as you would imagine ) told them my phone was overheating and i was getting the standard overheating message making my phone useless. I left it with them as they tried to replace my screen which i had already tried myself so knew wouldn't work and returned in an 1hr for them to say they couldn't fix it and so gave me a brand new replacement 5s.

Instead of paying the 199 that it usually costs to replace i paid 2.98 + postage.
May only work if you are still within the 1 year warranty.
Just thought i should give fukers a heads up as it can save you a fair deal of money.

Those with Jailbroken phones -

You probably know already but for those who don't, check out PwnTunes - easy drag and drop music files and files in general. Music files can be accessed via the normal music app; so essentially no need to use ITunes for music.

does anyone else ever get when listening to music through their earphones that sometimes the sound will suddenly drop in volume even though you haven't adjusted it? I found that it's because facebook is open even though I have background app disabled and I wasn't even on the fb app. As soon as I fully close it, the sound goes back to normal. Anyone know a reason behind this?
