Saw star wars tonight. 7/10 for me - gave me goosebumps and child like awe at times but there were too many plot holes/recycled tropes for my liking and the uber-hunger-games-super-heroine was a bit too much from time to time. Got me wanting to rewatch the originals again though
General Discussion: Last film you saw?

Consensus in the end, Bill?
Second half a lot better than the first but overall first impressions were that while it's an excellent peice of filmmaking I thought the characters and the story just weren't that special. Despite the film being 95 percent dialogue there wasn't the same constantly engaging dialogue that's found in nearly all of previous movies.
Maybe i need to each it again. I found my attention easily drifted which never happened with his movies before.

Why would you go see this movie if you don't like the type of humor? It's super clear from the trailer, or even just the plot what sort of movie this is. I haven't seen a critic not like it.
I watched it online FYI , that's like saying why would I watch the Senna documentary but I hate F1 for eg. It got good reviews, I watched it, there were funny parts but it was really really shit. I like satire and dark humour, but this my friend is shit. Plus a critic liking doesn't mean I will like it. You have not even stated if you liked it lol.

1. You're comparing a stylistic device with a topic here, that doesn't make any sense. 2. Not 'a critic', but almost any critic. That does say something. 3. I have stated I liked it in a previous post.

I wasn't feeling the force at all. It was a safe remake. 7/10 maybe. Another fucking death star, are you shitting me? It felt WAY too much like a reboot and a handing over of the reins to a new, younger cast who together encapsulate the personalities of the original gang, and not enough of a story progression. I see there being two more films at the very least. It'll be an angsty Twilight affair. It all looked very polished but there was nothing much that was new, about The First Order for instance. Everyone is falling over themselves to praise her but I also thought Rey's earnest bright-eyed performance was annoying and unconvincing. Urgh.
I've never seen Twighlight or the Hunger Games but I've seen the imagery and yeah that Rey chick looks like the Hunger Games one now you mention it. Everyone's too ugly to be in Twighlight tho? I thought that was deliberate coz the original cast wasn't an oil painting either, except for Han. Yeah you're right feels like a "reboot". I hate that shit.
Saw Joe Dirt 2. Now that is a sequel that surpasses the original! ALL the original cast 14 years later. Some weak scenes but plenty of gold. Walken is genius as always with his adlibs.
Stick it out with the 8, it slowly builds and gets better n better. The aesthetic is worth it alone, 70mm real film with a classic no bullshit feel to every shot.

An hour into Hateful Eight. Massive Tarantino fan, almost everything he's done has grabbed my full attention from the first scene but this so far is a massive disappointment.

I like QT films but Kill Bill was shit (2 was REALLY SHIT! I can't believe I paid money to see them in the cinema, it was a robbery) as was Grindhouse and I wasn't keen on Inglorious. Django was a bit better but because I had seen Inglorious it felt a bit of a Waltz acting extravaganza with brief appearances from Sameul L Jackson. Nevertheless a good film ruined by the directors own cameo.
Rough cut. If you're a fan of Korean gangster films and have seen A Dirty Carnival you'll like this movie within a movie.

Hateful Eight - the best thing hes done since Jackie Brown, everything in between has been shite or so-so. Walton Goggins was brilliant. Slow burner that keeps the screw turning. Film always looks 100x better than digital. Im a fan of play-like films, but wont be for everyone. Tarantino meets Mamet. 9/10
The Revenant - Decent. Good cast. Would have been better if id never watched Bear Grylls. Leo always watchable. Needed a bit more. 7/10
The Lobster - Thought this was going to be brilliant but got boring towards the half way mark, ran out of steam. 5.5/10

Completely missed that Terence Davies has done an adaptation of Sunset Song. Need to see this ASAP

No it's not, your saying why would I watch something for what it is in essence. Who goes to the cinema or watches a film because of its stylistic device - not many people. They go to watch a film. It does not matter if most critics like it, I don't. What's your beef. Your getting upset because a film that you and other critics liked in my view was shit. Sylistic device, what parody and self awareness mixed with deadpan humour. The Office is good.
