Hail Ceaser- The audience I was with were shit apart from one middle aged woman. It's not really for a mass audience seeing as most people don't know anything about McCarthyism or the contradictions of mid-century communism, making the parallels that are drawn to the glamour of Hollywood useless. It is a fun film, the visuals are good but the story feels lax and tropey.

Went with very low expectations, and was ok I guess and not too long.

Pretty much. I liked how their fear and apparent "godliness" ended up working against them to provide Thomasin with some liberation and agency finally.

Not a perfect film, but a solid 8/10 for me

Disorder - A French film about a soldier struggling with PTSD after coming back from Afghanistan. There's an edge and tension throughout the film, contributed to by Gesaffelstein's menacing soundtrack, that continues to build, but it's ruined by the last minute of the film which has a completely misguided ending. I won't spoil it by revealing what.

If the film is viewed with the main character's PTSD as the subject rather than what's actually going on in the film's "main" story - and I'm sure that was the director's intention - it makes sense. By the end of the film he's realised that he has a problem so there's a natural conclusion there, but the way the "main" story is wrapped up just isn't believable and spoils an otherwise good film that was entertaining for its first 97 minutes.

6 out of 10. Would've been 7 but for the last minute.

High Rise is alright, bit unfocused and messy.
