I didn’t think Ryan Gosling was that good. I’m pretty sure anyone could have just stood there and been him tbh as he looks nothing like Neil Armstrong. He still needs to prove himself I reckon - hasn’t been amazing in anything I’ve seen and La La Land is the shittest thing ever

Could be this one of the worse years for films?

Hereditary . Expected to hate this but thought it watchable, I haven't been frightened by a horror film since the age of 8 like most film fans I speak to but horror done well can be a decent watch, no spoilers but the ending went too far and was unbelievable in the world the writer had built.

Driver is really good yeah but Ryan Gosling did nothing for it. He barely said a word. Like Blade Runner - he was really good but anyone could have played that role….

Just my humble opinion. He’s a cool actor for sure and his arms are massive in A Place Beyond the Pines

Hold the Dark . Saulniers new one (made the brilliant blue ruin then green room) slow start then gets going, the set piece gun fight is one of the best I've seen apart from heat, good film if slightly weird not in the good like David Lynch way though.

Disagree strongly, no one could have done a better job in driver, he's this generations Steve McQueen.

My Dinner with Herve . Really touching and entertaining, then you get to the end and you find out the actual journalist who had the wild night with him wrote and directed the film.(Herve was the dwarf nick nack in the man with the golden gun and tattoo in fantasy island, "da plane, da plane" probably meaningless to anyone under 35 on here)

Mandy . One of the films of the year easily, Nicky cage in full on bonkers mode in a serious horror film, so refreshing after all the boring ironic horror films that is the fashion now. The scene when he goes into his bathroom and drinks a bottle of vodka quickly while howling/crying in rage because a mad cult just burned his girlfriend to death in front of him while tied up with barb wire is haunting, thats not a spoiler every review mentions it, he then goes on a revenge jig that is fucking mental, got to wonder if the writer director Panos Cosmatos will go onto to be an amazing talent or only have one masterpiece film in him like the Donnie Darko guy Richard Kelly.
