Watch Top Dog on Netflix tonight, was happy to watch mindless hooligan rubbish but was surprised at how bad it was. It's clearly a cheap film but even so I'm surprised it got funded.
I started watching The Guvnors after on the basis I wouldn't mind binning it after a bit to go to bed and it's suprisingly good. Harley Sylvester is excellent and even David Essex is OK.

I guess Heat is more of a heist film but I like it better.

For recent Japanese gangster flicks check out the Outrage trilogy ( I still have to get the last one) and of course Takano's earlier gang films esp Sonatine, Boiling point (as known in English)..

Finally got around to watching The Irishman. I love a 3 hour mobster epic as much as the next man, but felt this dragged horribly.

Biggest problem with the Irishman is it should have been made 10-15 years ago. It was nice to see these guys back on screen but the whole de-aging thing was distracting and Pacino especially seemed his age regardless of the sophisticated CGI. Still rated it though, some very memorable moments.

I liked the slow pacing of The Irishman, a bit like watching the Soprano's (greatest TV series ever made btw) where the mundane is what makes it believable

Knives Out is fucking brilliant. So many little great pieces in it that really add to the whole underlying rich privilege and selfishness of the family etc. Thought Daniel Craig was excellent in this and Michael Shannon is great as always.
