^ handmaiden was really good, forgot about that one.

Do think hereditary was terrible, got a few chuckles out of it though

Don't want to repeat anyone else's suggestions as there are some good ones, not a list of ten but:

Holy Motors
The Master
mother!
First Reformed
The Raid

Deffo need a mention for some of the best of the decade too.

I agree, even Blue Ruin by the same director is better imo but if a genre movie really grabs you then what can you do.

I really liked Mandy but would struggle to put it in a best film list etc.

It Follows definitely should get a mention - great soundtrack but the weird ending (swimming pool scene) was a bit of a letdown I think… I believe it was a nod to the ending of The Entity.

midsommer is good but if we're going cults then martha, marcy, may marlene & sound of my voice are in above it and if we're going horror then imo the one's i listed are better.

Really hard to even remember let alone make a top ten. Off the top of my head:

Whiplash
Mad Max: Fury Road
Under The Skin
Phantom Thread
Sicario
First Man
Her
Twelve Years a Slave
Arrival
Silence
The Descendants
Rogue One
The Grand Budapest Hotel
La La Land
Drive

Oops that's fifteen already…

It was actually really good but I think Hereditary was a much better introduction to Ari Aster.

On a related note if you want to watch a really messed up short, Ari Aster’s A Strange Thing About The Johnsons is available on YouTube.

Proper messed up.
