The boiler has started to click on and off about 20 times each time it fires up and now has started to have a bit of a whistle coming from it.
Any thoughts?

Mine was doing something like this only last week, fan had seized up.

What's the scam here?

Mrs keeps you on a short leash don't she

Although I found out what happened. Those numbers there are for a guy who works in the same building. His mobile and his landline. I didn't make those calls, they just appeared on my phone. Weird.

When did you last have it serviced?
How old is it?

It's a Potterton Prima f, original from when the house was built 20 odd years ago.
Think it's been serviced prior to us, but not in the 8 years we've lived here.

Not too sure on e whistling noise but my boiler was clicking on its self throughout the night and it was a faulty thermostat, replace that and all was good again.

A gas engineer decided to break my gas box at 5pm this afternoon, then called Transco who came and capped my supply.

Sounds like it needs a good service and bit of TLC, the electrodes which spark to ignite the gas become covered in crap over time, which means they don't always ignite the boiler first time. The whistling is most probably down to the fan like LFC said. Probably worth getting it serviced sometime soon, rather than leave it over the spring/summer.
Think Primas do have a common fault with the PCB relay though which affects ignition, can't remember which model. New PCB can be had for about £130.

Looking at buying cars, I've seen one that says 'part ex at asking price'. Does this mean if I'm paying cash I could get it for a lot less?

After some advice on behalf of a mate, he's been ripped off by this company

http://mobilesmartrepair.com/smart-repair-st-helens/

Basically my mate backed into a woman's car at work, he's offered to sort it all out for her and obviously pay. He rung this guy to fix the damage, arranged a date and stupidly paid upfront by PayPal gift.

The guy hasn't showed up to do the work and won't answer his phone, my mate is giving up on it and says it's only £140 and can't be bothered with it but I think he needs to pursue it. What's the best approach, I can't find an address or anything on the site as its a mobile operation.
