I'm well aware of the fact that his coverage is going up if he makes a claim
(I feel like that why he's saying he can't…). This stuff would've been so much
easier here in The Netherlands (coverage won't go up, everyone has liability)..
Travel insurance my bike is covered for 400eu, its a 4000eu bike frame.. Its something..Maybe you should have bought ample travel cover for your possessions rather than hoping to claim on someone else's insurance.
Thanks guys Re Insurance!
I wondered if someone might be able to offer some advice please. My wife reversed and scraped another car last week, bloke was in the car, small scrape to the paintwork. It was left that he would get a quote, he got back to her today to say that nobody wants to give a quote as the job is too small. He then goes on to ask her what her excess is. Seems like he's going to wangle as much money as he can. What do you reckon our next move should be? Many thanks.
That's what I thought Gaz, surely garages don't turn work away because the job isn't big enough? I've never heard of anyone not able to quote a price on a job. That That aside they can't all be so flush with work. I bet that he either hasn't bothered trying to get a quote or the quote was so small that he's trying to get more money and leave/do the scuff himself.
Plus him asking about the excess is irrelevant as she doesn't pay it on claims by third-partys.

Have a question for you guys (insurance - boring sorry).
I was in Scotland last weekend at a bike event, bike broke and a friend gave
me a ride back to the airport in his car. When we enter the airport, we go
underneath one of those 2m high fences, with two bikes on the top… Yup…
So my beautiful custom (bike) frame is now in two pieces… (as well as damage
to his bike/ car/ bike rack).
When it happened I thought, no big deal, just an insurance thing (I'm from the
Netherlands, and everyone has to have liability insurance by law). But now my
friend is saying he can't claim it on his insurance? And now I'm wondering,
should any car insurance in the UK not be covering 3rd party damage? Or
does it depend on the type of coverage you have?

@frank101
I would have thought that your friends insurance policy would cover third party damage. He has damaged your bike as a result of his negligence. His own bike may not be covered, but yours should be. It's compulsory third party cover, as per the Road Traffic Act
However as your bike was already broke, you might get a smaller settlement

I've just had a customs bill for £66.70 on a jacket I paid $120 and $16 shipping. There is an £8 Royal Mail handling fee added to that, but it still seems a lot? Anyone work this out forme please or know of a decent calculator onlineto work it out? Thanks
