To be fair we are having to buy shit loads of new furniture, hence wanting an affordable set that will last longer than 3 weeks. I'm happy to spend a bit more for a decent set, but not wanting to break the bank.

Victorinox looks a good shout illwill

People spunk £130 on a pair of trainers, but get scared about spending the same on 3 knives that you’ll use everyday.
Nothing to do with silver spoon, just makes more sense IMO.

for sure. zero logic/immediate gratification crew (jords, rural) will never understand

whatever knives you do get kris, make sure you get a sharpener. all knives, no matter how far eastern they are, will blunt over time… nothing more infuriating than trying to chop a tomato and you just crush it with a super blunt blade

I bought a set of samual Stainforth knives that are good, hand made in Sheffield! The sites are a little confusing but Samuel Stainforth and smithfild are the same company, they are not cheap but the quality is great I got this set but substituted the boning knife for a santoku. I had a 15% code too.

But if you have a lot of other stuff to buy check out tkmaxx and home sense I've seen a load of Zwilling knives in there heavily reduced, and prior to the smithfild knife set I had a set of Richardson Sabatier from home sense which lasted a good five year.

Also chefs knives have a really high carbon content so should not be soaked or put in the dishwasher as they will rust, even good ones.

I kinda get where you're coming from with the slicing tomato thing, but I'm not obsessive lol.

Will check out homesense etc Russ. Waiting for the underwriters to do their job at the moment so squeaky bum.

Any fukers know any online tools that will remove the background from an image (it's grey at the moment -> want to make it white).

The websites that offer this are a bit hit and miss. Just need it for two items. Should I bite the bullet and pay someone to do it in photoshop?

Download GIMP, use the magic scissors, invert selection and delete the inverted selection.
Export do BMP and place image on a white canvas.
Or try if the simplest way works: Open in Paint and try the "fill" tool with white colour.

Can help you out too if you don´t have it already.

I bought a small pen sketch from an artist called Flavia Irwin at the RCA secret postcode auction. I had no idea what it’s worth so put it on eBay for £100. Someone bought it immediately and sent me 2 PM’s in a day asking me if I’ve shipped it yet. I’m now worried it’s worth more.

I tried to have a google and can’t find any reliable information on auction results. Is anyone a member of an auction results website and could check for me? Or have any knowledge of the artist?

my dishwasher smells after a few days of not using it (typically switch it on every 2nd or 3rd day, unless having guests over). it looks extremely clean inside after a wash (1 year old) but it just reeks after a couple of days… I've wiped the seals and poured vinegar + bicarb down the drain but neither seem to help. anyone else had this problem?
