my sister is moving to London start of August for 6 months. She will be working at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, but is currently struggling to find somewhere.

Suggestion on where to look?

Monthly budget of £1250

Does she want her own place or doesn't mind sharing?

I'm thinking she would prefer to be North of the river or East.

Not sure where to share this, but the "night tube" starts in a couple of weeks

The first Night Tube services will launch on the Central and Victoria lines on Friday 19 August, with services on the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines following in autumn. The Night Tube will offer a 24-hour service on Fridays and Saturdays.

if she wants her own gaff then archway/holloway road you may squeeze into a bedsit at that money. Sharing wise she'll have no problem getting a lovely gaff in highgate

Or look at muswell hill, close to Highgate but cheaper, should be able to get a decent good sized studio for under her budget or a share easily

Hampstead? Move to Wembley and commute. Save a fortune.

Looking to buy, like a place in tottenham hale and then one near west green road (turnpike lane/green lanes end). Both seem OK - Tottenham Hale easy for transport as Victoria Line is there.. seems like nothing there though, although did have a nice walk around and went Beavertown, Craving Cofffee.

Other flat is cheaper, but 20 min walk to Seven Sisters..

Anyone live up there and can recommend?

Bonkers to buy now - very interesting articles and conversation coming out at the moment; I've heard properties in North London being discounted at anything between 20-30 p/c at the moment……I'd hold off for at least a year to see how things begin to shape up in the ensuring months. We could well be in 'peak' bubble territory at the moment.

Does anyone know the upmarket alternatives to Sparerooms, I remember reading about some new room share sites that cater for professionals and you have to be vetted by your prospective tenants, or screened by the agency before you get a look-in?

shego - I live in that area, downhills park, I've lived up here for 8 years or so, if you looking for lots social life its not really there yet but there is a fair bit more than there was even a year ago.

where we are is pretty quite for london and 2 nice enough parks (for central london) which have had a lot invested in them over last few years.

Only Shoreditch one

Would say 100% yes if under 30 and live nearby: Half price membership and mondays half price on your bill.
If you're into fitness then the Gym is included so works out good value IMO.

Defo. Good for networking if you work in marketing/arts/creative industries. Great place to have client meetings. And full to the the brim with 10/10 tang.

Edit: And the rooftop pool area is ace during summer.
