I live in Lausanne and work in Geneva.
In what field do you work? There is a lot of opportunity in the pharmaceutical industry as well as engineering field in Basel.
Zurich and Geneva have the best positions in banking and finance but you should be able to find great opportunities in Basel aswell.
There is also watches manufacturer not far from Basel(ie. Rolex's manufacture in Bienne)
Regarding entertainment I'd suggest,if you like furniture and design, the vitra house/museum:
http://www.design-museum.de/de/informationen.htmlUse: www.itaste.ch if you look for a restaurant in Switzerland.
And:
http://www.englishforum.ch/forum.php is popular for expat.
If you need recommendation/tips don't hesitate to PM me.

been to Basel too many times for my liking.
Went last month and was staying in the Marriott with the waterpark next to it.
It had 4 lazy river rides! 4!!
what the fuck do you need 4 rides doing the same boring ass shit for?
sums up Switzerland right there

2 of the people in my position before me in my lab moved to basel as you get literally quadruple the wage with the same qualifications working in pharma, they say its a nice place to live.
ive also been to basel, zurich and geneva quite a few times. zurich has a really beautiful old town right on the water, otherwise switzerland is quite dull bar the skiing. the food can be a bit shit at times too

That's not true, there is a ton of great place for food, especially in Zurich and Geneva.
Basel is not the most interesting city but there is a ton of amazing place to visit.
Especially in the canton of Zurich and Vaud.

I doubt that you will find any other country with as much advantage as Switzerland(especially considering how small it is).
The quality of life is excellent, you can travel all around the country by train (and you can easily access places with stunning landscape views, ie. Zermatt, Gstaad, Montreux, etc.)
Also, there is a lot of big companies with their headquarter here, so the job opportunities are pretty good.
Anyway, you will see this by yourself jeg.

cheers on this
I've heard mixed re the food and moving from London I will miss the variety - but for a 2 year plan I'll give it a go.
If I can move back with a basic understanding of German, better boarder and an excuse to buy a Cannondale BadBoy - then I'll be happy. Looking forward to the fact I can get to Germany, France and Milan trips
Do they just call them Army knives over there?

"Feel At Home is intended for our UK customers who are visiting one of the destinations for short trips, like holidays or business trips. If you only use your plan in a Feel At Home destination for a complete month, and this happens three times within a year, we may have to suspend international roaming on your account, which would mean you wouldn’t be able to use your phone or device abroad anymore. We’d let you know if this were likely to happen. If you spend a full month abroad but some of that time is spent in a destination that isn’t included in Feel At Home, the restriction won’t apply."
you are right. works fine for me though. feel so sorry for people still paying for roaming
