Decent hotel to get to Southbank Centre SE1 or is it pretty central to use the usual suspects?

Anyone stayed at the Berkeley?
Is it any good for a weekend of peace and quiet without the kids,
Otherwise any alternatives, must be close to shopping areas and have a Michelin/ decent restaurant on site
I know nothing about London hotels so any input much appreciates
Berkeley does a King superior room with a food experience at Marcus wareing, breakfast, champagne on arrival etc for £550 all in
