Heard this was the case. Is there any independents out there? I thought Oliver's people fell into this camp, but obviously wrong

Oliver Peoples sold out. Garrett Leight's dad must've retired. Garett Leight might be indie. His work looks a lot like his father's in Olivers Peoples.

The Light Co group in Japan are handmade fanatics - they craft frames for Native Sons, Matsuda and Tommy O Gara's projects all by hand in small quantities. OAMC optics and the Max Pittion remakes too.

Who makes Serengeti? They made some great glasses 10 years ago. Not sure now - disappointed to see they've gone mainstream.

whats with the eyevan7285 brand from japan ? I´ve been wondering if they belong to any big corporation too or still small business from japan. Quit steep their pricing, but quality seems excellent.

Larry Leight (Garrett's father and Oliver People guy) stayed on in some sort of director / advisor role or something, but that's finished now. Heard he is joining his son in helping with Garrett Leight now.

There are thousands of independent eyewear brands out there.

Serengeti is owned by Bushnell now (who also own Bollé).

Bill Barton was the president of Oliver Peoples and set up Barton Perreira with the designer Patty Perreira.

Garrett Leight is independent but Larry works with him in some capacity.

The quality is excellent. I'm not 100% sure but I think it's a relaunch of an old brand. Whether or not that was by the original company or a new one, and who's behind it I'm not sure either.

That's a clichéd typically American list. Laughing out loud To take one example Monogool from Belgium is actually Monoqool from Denmark (one of my clients).

Don't confuse manufacturers with companies and brands. Most eyewear companies and brands don't have their own factories, they outsource manufacturing to independent factories.

Mondottica are like a mini-Luxottica, they produce under licence for a number of brands.

Which designers actually produce their own goods?

I saw a doc on Chanel once and they were producing the garments (not all) in the Paris store.
