Been driving my mrs mini for last 6 months after returning x3 m sport 3.5 three and a half years old and it’s fucked. Ordered a new car in Jan and it’s still not arrived. Not needed another car during lockdown so saving cash I guess.

I'll never understand the attraction of SUVs though. just for divs/chavs

I couldn’t go back to having a non SUV now. I think the ride height and comfort is the major factor for me. When I drive my wife’s car feels like I’m in a go cart.

Is everyone in here on 60K plus a year salary? Some proper baller cars man. I haven't driven since 2011, at that time I had a 325ti BMW Compact.

But I need to get back on he road, but I just can't understand car finance, PCP, Lease, HP I have no idea which way to go and how to get a good deal without being shafted by the salesman. Anyone got an idiots guide to the above or can explain in laymans terms what I need to know?

Bails lurk the pistonheads lease deals thread and you‘ll find a good deal. Doesn’t work if you’re after a specific car though

Lease is just that, you lease/rent the car at £x per month over x number of years and hand it back at the end.

Pcp is similar, although at the end of the period you have the option to buy, hand it back or trade for a new vehicle. All depends on residual values

HP is a loan you pay £x per month until the money you’ve borrowed to purchase the car has been repaid

Thanks guys.

I would like to go down the Electric route so Tesla Model 3 or if that's too expensive then some sort of Hybrid like the Mini Countryman S E, but I can imagine monthly payments would be quite steep. Another thing is Insurance I'm going to get raped on this since I don't have any no claims, and they would class the Tesla as a Premium car so would be looking at £1500 for the year, I reckon I could end up spending £600 a month, which is just too much out of my monthly wages.

Currently have a Defender and A35 AMG after getting rid of my Discovery Sport and 911. Miss being high up though in the A35 so will probably go for another 4x4 when I give it back.

For a solid electric car look at the eGolf If you’re not doing super long trips. The new Leaf is also really good. The Audi eTron is pants

Cayenne for commute? Doesn't that kill you on fuel?

Its a 3 litre diesel mate, does about 25 mpg, I do about 80 miles a day, its not too bad.

Hardly mate, I just love cars. First SUV I've ever had, previously I had the last 2 generations of A8's a S class and before that a cl500 for commuting and honestly the cayenne is better than the lot, its just so comfortable and does everything well. I've never had a daily that feels special after owning it 2+ years, the cayenne still does, the interior is stunning.

How do you find the exige? Had it long? What engine and power does that have? I dont know much about lotus but I have wanted something small for a long time! A 911 with anything near 400bhp is 60k+ so out of the question, I looked at a 4C, which I do love but just cant get over the 1.7 litre engine, especially as it would replace a a 4 litre V8.

Scura edition of 25, think it was 925kg/260hp stock, closer to 900 now and around 300hp with no cat and custom exhaust. It’s great fun on track and swirly mountain roads and sounds mad.

Downside is speeds over 130km/h are not pleasant, ie highway driving and has ”lotus solutions” like you have to top off battery every other week, once the battery goes out the remote wont work and you can not open the doors with the regular key but have to screw off the hood and hookup an external battery, no storage for the hard top so once it comes off you have to deal with rain etc, once drowe to switzserland sans roof, you just have to drive fast once it starts raining.

If you can live with the quirks it’s great fun although if you want one of the new gens exiges or even something komo-tec I think it will run you as much as a porche, completely different cars though. Have driven a gt3 back to back on track and even as the gt3 is faster around a track a lotus will be way more fun, a porsche is a proper car where a lotus is a giant go cart where you can test the limits of the grip constantly and even loons forward to spinning off the track into the grass, would be shit scared in a porshe doing that.
